Book Synopsis Italian Regionalism: Between Unitary Traditions and Federal Processes by : Stelio Mangiameli
Download or read book Italian Regionalism: Between Unitary Traditions and Federal Processes written by Stelio Mangiameli and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-06-12 with total page 411 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The object of this book is to describe the institutional modifications of the Italian form of state more than ten years after the review of Title V – Part II of the Italian Constitution – for an audience that goes well beyond the Italian national boundaries. The fifteen essays that make up the book discuss the birth and evolution of the Italian regionalism (including those regions with Special Statutes) as well as reforms of 1999-2001. A particular attention is devoted to the role of autonomy in defining regional statutes, regional forms of government, and regulatory and administrative powers. These are subjects on which there is by now an abundant body of constitutional case law, which is extensively referred to by the chapters. The role of the regions vis-à-vis the local bodies and vis-à-vis the European and international order is also discussed, as the right to negotiate with foreign powers has now been conferred on the regions. Lastly, the volume presents contributions on regional finance and on the new law on fiscal federalism, as well as on regional powers in the area of health and welfare.

Book Synopsis Macchine o maccheroni? La Cassa per il Mezzogiorno e lo sviluppo economico italiano by : Amedeo Lepore
Download or read book Macchine o maccheroni? La Cassa per il Mezzogiorno e lo sviluppo economico italiano written by Amedeo Lepore and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2012-06-11 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Book Synopsis Claims for Secession and Federalism by : Alberto López-Basaguren
Download or read book Claims for Secession and Federalism written by Alberto López-Basaguren and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-01-05 with total page 576 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume, incorporating the work of scholars from various parts of the globe, taps the wisdom of the Westphalian (and post-Westphalian) world on the use of federalism and secession as tools for managing regional conflicts. The debate has rarely been more important than it is right now, especially in light of recent events in Catalonia, Scotland, Québec and the Sudan - all unique political contexts raising similar questions about how best to balance competing claims for autonomy, interdependence, political voice, and exit. Exploring how various nations have encountered comparable conflicts, some more and some less successfully, the book broadens the perspectives of scholars, government officials, and citizens struggling to resolve sovereignty conflicts with a full appreciation of the underlying principles they represent.
Book Synopsis Challenging centralism by : Lea Campos Boralevi
Download or read book Challenging centralism written by Lea Campos Boralevi and published by Firenze University Press. This book was released on 2011 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, which is the result of a project of Research of Relevant National Interest (PRIN 2007), presents an overview of theoretical-political thought as a challenge to centralism, starting from the late Middle Ages and the Modern Age through to the twentieth century. As against a 'vertical' vision of European politics which, from Machiavelli to Mosca, favours the hierarchical nature of power relations, the essays collected here are presented as a number of brief chapters in the history of the 'horizontal paradigm' in European political thought. They demonstrate the wealth and the persistence of a tradition and of the myriad experiences and theorisations that have, in effect, proposed forms of decentralisation and of association frequently coexisting with centralism, as in the case of the autonomies within the system of the great national states.
Book Synopsis EMU Integration and Member States’ Constitutions by : Stefan Griller
Download or read book EMU Integration and Member States’ Constitutions written by Stefan Griller and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2021-02-25 with total page 728 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, legal scholars from the EU Member States (with the addition of the UK) analyse the development of the EU Member States' attitudes to economic, fiscal, and monetary integration since the Treaty of Maastricht. The Eurozone crisis corroborated the warnings of economists that weak economic policy coordination and loose fiscal oversight would be insufficient to stabilise the monetary union. The country studies in this book investigate the legal, and in particular the constitutional, pre-conditions for deeper fiscal and monetary integration that influenced the past and might impact on the future positions in the (now) 27 EU Member States. The individual country studies address the following issues: - Main characteristics of the national constitutional system, and constitutional culture; - Constitutional foundations of Economic and Monetary Union (EMU) membership and related instruments; - Constitutional obstacles to EMU integration; - Constitutional rules and/or practice on implementing EMU-related law; and - The resulting relationship between EMU-related law and national law Offering a comprehensive and detailed assessment of the legal and constitutional developments concerning the Economic and Monetary Union since the Treaty of Maastricht, this book provides not only a study of legal EMU-related measures and reforms at the EU level, but most importantly sheds light on their perception in the EU Member States.
Book Synopsis Ethnicity and Nationalism in Italian Politics by : Margarita Gómez-Reino Cachafeiro
Download or read book Ethnicity and Nationalism in Italian Politics written by Margarita Gómez-Reino Cachafeiro and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-03-02 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Employing primary sources and interviews with protagonists of the rebellion of the Italian North, this book explores the invention of the Padanian nation and the construction of identity politics in Northern Italy. It reveals for the first time the connection between the ethnic wave in European party politics in the 1970s and the rise of a new radical right nationalism in the 1990s. The author highlights the way in which the discourse of national minorities was instrumental in the rise of a new political agenda that links territory, identity and cultural rights to create new boundaries of exclusion. In addition to clarifying the connection between the new nationalism and racism by demonstrating how cultural distinctiveness is constructed in contemporary European politics, this unique book also explores the dynamics of new party mobilization and the symbolic resources of nationalist rhetoric. This book presents for the first time data on political participation - both party elites and members - and the real dimension of the party organization.
