Book Synopsis Toys, Play, and Child Development by : Jeffrey H. Goldstein
Download or read book Toys, Play, and Child Development written by Jeffrey H. Goldstein and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1994-06-24 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Anything to do with children's entertainment is a source of controversy: children's television programmes, musical preferences, and leisure activities are frequent sources of debate. Toys and play are often singled out for attention, particularly war toys, sex-typed toys, and video games with aggressive themes. Are these harmful to children? Are they addictive? Alternatively, can parents facilitate children's learning with educational toys? Toys, Play, and Child Development explores these and other questions. Parental attitudes and reactions towards war toys are described, as are the children's views themselves. Toys and play are shown to contribute to the development of language, imagination, and intellectual achievement and to be effective in child psychotherapy.

Book Synopsis The Gamification of Society by : Stéphane Le Lay
Download or read book The Gamification of Society written by Stéphane Le Lay and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2021-03-29 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The applications of gamification and the contexts in which game elements can be successfully incorporated have grown significantly over the years. They now include the fields of health, education, work, the media and many others. However, the human and social sciences still neglect the analysis and critique of gamification. Research conducted in this area tends to focus on game objects and not gamifications logic as its ideological dimension. Considering that the game, as a model and a reference, laden with social value, deserves to be questioned beyond its objects, The Gamification of Society gathers together texts, observations and criticisms that question the influence that games and their mechanics have on wider society. The empirical research presented in this book (examining designers practices, early childhood, political action, the quantified self, etc.) also probes several different national contexts those of Norway, Belgium, the United States and France, among others.
Book Synopsis Francophone Perspectives of Learning Through Work by : Laurent Filliettaz
Download or read book Francophone Perspectives of Learning Through Work written by Laurent Filliettaz and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-07-09 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book generates a comprehensive account of ways in which practice-based learning has been conceptualized in the Francophone context. Learning for occupations, and the educational and practice-based experiences supporting it are the subject of increased interest and attention globally. Governments, professional bodies, workplaces and workers are now looking for experiences that support the initial and ongoing development of occupational capacities. Consequently, more attention is being given to workplaces as sites for this learning. This focus on learning through work has long been emphasised in the Francophone world, which has developed distinct traditions and conceptions of associations between work and learning. These include ergonomics and professional didactics. Yet, whilst being accepted and of long standing in the Francophone world, these conceptions and traditions, and the practices supporting them are little known about or understood in the Anglophone world, which is the dominant medium for scientific and educational discussion. This book addresses this problem through drawing on accounts from France, Switzerland and Canada that make accessible and elaborate these traditions, conceptions and practices through examples of their applications to occupationally related learning. These accounts offer variations and culturally-specific developments of these traditions, but collectively emphasize a preoccupation with how both work and learning need to be understood through situated considerations of persons enacting their work practice. In this way, they offer noteworthy and worthwhile contributions to contemporary global considerations of learning through work.
Book Synopsis Troubles de l'apprentissage chez l'enfant by : LENOBLE Evelyne
Download or read book Troubles de l'apprentissage chez l'enfant written by LENOBLE Evelyne and published by Lavoisier. This book was released on 2014-01-15 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Book Synopsis Mangaddicts: French Teenagers and Manga Reading by : Christine Détrez
Download or read book Mangaddicts: French Teenagers and Manga Reading written by Christine Détrez and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2023-05-25 with total page 293 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Just pronounce the word “manga” and conflicted representations of media reception emerge: either passive teenagers immersed in Japanese fictional worlds, or hyperactive fans. To understand what drives a variety of teenagers to read manga, we conducted empirical research among French readers enrolled in secondary schools. Manga is part of a whole constellation of interests, including music and digital technology. It is also the object of analytical, ethical or concrete appropriations. Reading then becomes a way to deal with past experiences and to connect with others, to learn how to express emotions and to assert (or contest) age and gender norms.
