Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis How to Read Architecture by : Paulette Singley
Download or read book How to Read Architecture written by Paulette Singley and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-06-26 with total page 463 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How to Read Architecture is based on the fundamental premise that reading and interpreting architecture is something we already do, and that close observation matters. This book enhances this skill so that given an unfamiliar building, you will have the tools to understand it and to be inspired by it. Author Paulette Singley encourages you to misread, closely read, conventionally read, and unconventionally read architecture to stimulate your creative process. This book explores three essential ways to help you understand architecture: reading a building from the outside-in, from the inside-out, and from the position of out-and-out, or formal, architecture. This book erodes boundaries between the frequently compartmentalized fields of interior design, landscape design, and building design with chapters exploring concepts of terroir, scenography, criticality, atmosphere, tectonics, inhabitation, type, form, and enclosure. Using examples and case studies that span a wide range of historical and global precedents, Singley addresses the complex interaction among the ways a building engages its context, addresses its performative exigencies, and operates as an autonomous aesthetic object. Including over 300 images, this book is an essential read for both undergraduate and postgraduate students of architecture with a global focus on the interpretation of buildings in their context.

Book Synopsis Aligning Organizations Through Measurement by : Victor Basili
Download or read book Aligning Organizations Through Measurement written by Victor Basili and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-06-04 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Aligning an organization’s goals and strategies requires specifying their rationales and connections so that the links are explicit and allow for analytic reasoning about what is successful and where improvement is necessary. This book provides guidance on how to achieve this alignment, how to monitor the success of goals and strategies and use measurement to recognize potential failures, and how to close alignment gaps. It uses the GQM+Strategies approach, which provides concepts and actionable steps for creating the link between goals and strategies across an organization and allows for measurement-based decision-making. After outlining the general motivation for organizational alignment through measurement, the GQM+Strategies approach is described concisely, with a focus on the basic model that is created and the process for creating and using this model. The recommended steps of all six phases of the process are then described in detail with the help of a comprehensive application example. Finally, the industrial challenges addressed by the method and cases of its application in industry are presented, and the relations to other approaches, such as Balanced Scorecard, are described. The book concludes with supplementary material, such as checklists and guidelines, to support the application of the method. This book is aimed at organization leaders, managers, decision makers, and other professionals interested in aligning their organization’s goals and strategies and establishing an efficient strategic measurement program. It is also interesting for academic researchers looking for mechanisms to integrate their research results into organizational environments.

Book Synopsis Meeting of Generals by : Tony Foster
Download or read book Meeting of Generals written by Tony Foster and published by Writer's Showcase Press. This book was released on 2000-10 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: D-Day Normandy, 1944. Twenty thousand, five hundred strong, the 12th Waffen-ss Hitler Youth Division marched into battle against Allied Forces. They were the last cream of the German youth, seventeen- and eighteen-year-old lads trained and led by a cadre of battle-hardened officers and NCOs who had survived four years of war in Europe and on the Russian front. With only a year of training, they were nevertheless ferocious fighters. At one critical point in the battle the depleted 12th ss Division fought three Canadian and three British divisions to a standstill. Eighty-five days after the landings, at the Battle of Falaise Gap, less than five hundred of the 12th Division’s front line troops remained. The rest were dead, wounded or captured. MEETING OF GENERALS is the study of a terrible war viewed from the two sides of a battlefield on which different moral and political ideologies struggled to prevail. Parallel biographies trace Generals Meyer’s and Foster’s careers – their youth, their ambitions, their sweethearts, their sorrows and personal tragedies – and show how each reflected the values of the nation that he served. In the end, both generals realize at Meyer’s War Crimes court-martial that in war there are no winners or losers – only victims.
