L'actualité de la rentrée scolaire était ce problème de la langue : le décalage entre le langage des élèves dans leurs familles ou entre eux et celui de l'école, des articles dans la presse ont abordé ce problème, des colloques sont organisés sur ce thème en 2002. De nombreux enseignants se trouvent démunis sur le plan théorique et pratique car il n'existe pas d'ouvrage méthodologique permettant de faire face à ces situations, ce à quoi cet ouvrage tente de répondre en apportant des principes didactiques et des applications pédagogiques.
