Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Enlightenment doesn't always come in the form we expect. It need not appear as a self-styled guru or a complicated theory measuring some mysterious quality. Sometimes it's as close as the chocolate Lab bounding happily through the backyard or the lovable terrier contentedly curled up in one's lap. In the foreword to this thoughtful examination of enlightenment, Dr. Bernie Siegel sums it up: “Dogs are healers. They are enlightened. They seem to have figured out how to live beautifully so much better than we humans have.” In these pages, distinctive black-and-white dog images by acclaimed animal photographer Zachary Folk are illuminated by captions of down-to-earth spiritual wisdom “from” the dogs to us, their often confused humans. A delightful romp through canine philosophy, this charming collection celebrates the simple wisdom and that special combination of natural earthiness and subtle spirituality that characterize humankind's best friend.

Book excerpt: Maira Kalman, with wit and great sensitivity, reveals why dogs bring out the best in us Maira Kalman + Dogs = Bliss Dogs have lessons for us all. In Beloved Dog, renowned artist and author Maira Kalman illuminates our cherished companions as only she can. From the dogs lovingly illustrated in her acclaimed children’s books to the real-life pets who inspire her still, Kalman’s Beloved Dog is joyful, beautifully illustrated, and, as always, deeply philosophical. Here is Max Stravinsky, the dog poet of Oh-La-La (Max in Love)-fame, and her own Irish Wheaton Pete (almost named Einstein, until he revealed himself to be “clearly no Einstein”), who also made an appearance in the delightful What Pete Ate: From A to Z. And of course, there is Boganch, Kalman’s in-laws’ “big black slobbering Hungarian Beast.” And that’s just the beginning. With humor and intelligence, Kalman gives voice to the dogs she adores, noting that they are constant reminders that life reveals the best of itself when we live fully in the moment and extend unconditional love. “And it is very true,” she writes, “that the most tender, complicated, most generous part of our being blossoms without any effort, when it comes to the love of a dog.”

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The pup, Daisy, is more interested in cuddling and snuggling than in romping and running. Everyone calls Daisy a lazy dog, except Mattie, who thinks her pup is perfect just the way she is. The notion that we are all good at something is realized when Daisy's laziness becomes an asset as she becomes a "love dog" at a hospital. This book is inspired by the mission of therapy animal programs across the country. When witnessing the human-animal bond that occurs between hospitalized children and visiting therapy dogs, one recognizes that it takes a special type of dog to be a "love dog." Lazy Daisy, the Love Dog captures this concept in an enchanting tale of a puppy's serendipity route to becoming a therapy dog. The whimsical illustrations are printed from original watercolors and skillfully convey Daisy's personality and adventures.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The advent of time-shared computer systems has created a need for a flexible and relatively low-cost communication terminal for remote computer access. Most time-shared systems now use mechanical teletypewriters which are slow and unable to present graphic displays--a serious limitation in many sophisticated computer applications. The best candidate for a teletypewriter replacement appears to be a CRT console with an alphanumeric keyboard input which can connect as a 'stand alone' unit to a standard telephone line. The unit uses a direct-view storage tube (DVST) for a display screen and contains a vector generator and a symbol generator for the full ASCII symbol set. It can connect to a central computer via a 1200-2400 baud dataphone line. A manually- controlled electronic cursor for graphical input to the computer can also be added.

This book was released on 2014 with total page 720 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book covers the remarkable success of a first-generation Polish kid who, at the age of eighteen, enlisted in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He was one of less than a handful of basic airmen who rose to the rank of four-star general. More importantly, it covers the reincarnation of WW II Air Commandos under the code name of Jungle Jim, as well as US combat air operations from 1961 through 1967 flying obsolete B-26s and the newest jet fighter, the F-4D. Then airman Piotrowski qualified for aviation cadet training and earned his first wings as a navigator and electronic warfare officer (EWO). Following assignments in Korea and Japan, he returned to the United States for pilot training ranking number one in his class and qualifying for jet fighters. He was selected for Project Jungle Jim and became a leading air force expert in conventional weapons and tactics. His flying ability, combat experience, and tactical expertise led to his assignment at the Air Force Top Gun School to instruct air force generals headed for Vietnam on conventional weapons and tactics. Following school and staff assignments, he was selected to command the Fortieth Tactical Group, Aviano, Italy. He led the group for three years, receiving a rating as "Best Wing in the USAF." Following Aviano, he was a special assistant to, and troubleshooter for, General Jones, air force chief. Shortly thereafter, he was selected to build the 552nd AWAC equipped with the E-3A aircraft and bring it to combat status. Next, he commanded Air Defense TAC, where he was selected to review the Desert One failure with five other officers. He provided inside information on how the rescue attempt in Iran unraveled. On another special assignment, he was sent to Saudi Arabia as a special advisor to the Saudi chief of the defense staff with the mission to improve Saudi Air Defense. Following that, then major general Piotrowski went to Oman with a diplomatic portfolio to forge an agreement with the Omni government on joint military training of US and Omani forces. Subsequently, he was assigned to the Tactical Air Command as the director of operations and vice commander. Here he grappled with a number of aircraft-related problems and brought the stealth fighter into the operational inventory. Next, he commanded Ninth Air Force with twelve subordinate wings with roughly one thousand fighter aircraft assigned, with responsibilities for air warfare in support of ground forces in the Middle East. On one of his many visits to Sudan, he stopped an invasion from Ethiopia in one day. He was promoted to the rank of general to serve as the vice chief of the air force. Here he revealed how the JCS operates, as well as inside information on the capture of the Achille Lauro hijackers and the punitive raid on Libya. His last assignment was commanding the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) and the United States Space Command (USSPACECOM), where he had the opportunity to host and brief senior military members of the Soviet Union and People's Republic of China.
