Book Synopsis The Quanah Route by : Donovan L. Hofsommer
Download or read book The Quanah Route written by Donovan L. Hofsommer and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Iron Horse forever changed the American West, from a wild frontier to a network of scattered settlements tied together by steel rails. Behind the romantic image of the galloping Iron Horse, however, lies a rich history of American business activity. Railway giants have dominated this history, but small companies such as the Quanah, Acme & Pacific Railway Company (QA&P), a short line that operated in four counties of northwestern Texas from near the turn of the century into the 1980s, had just as great an impact in their areas of operation as the giants did on the national scene. The QA&P developed in an era when railroads were tightly regulated by the Railroad Commission of Texas and the federal Interstate Commerce Commission. The in-depth historical analysis of an American short line railroad presented here is in essence the study of all such carriers in the era before deregulation. Fully illustrated with photographs and memorabilia, this volume covers the Quanah Route's birth, valiant struggle for life, and eventual demise in a changing regulatory and competitive environment. This then is a history not only of a railroad but also of its service area, particularly during one of the last great railroad construction booms, which took place in West Texas during the 1920s. Through the years of the QA&P's life, energetic men such as Sam Lazarus and Charles Sommer juggled political and financial concerns against the changing times, Lazarus making the deal by which the QA&P became a subsidiary of the St. Louis–San Francisco (Frisco) road. In the end, the "good roads movement," trucking industry, and growing American passion for the private automobile spelled the end of the railroads' golden age as the prime carrier of passengers and products. As traced by Don L. Hofsommer in the full archives of the QA&P, the history of this short line railroad embodies the pulse and pathos of a place through the changing times of the twentieth century.
Download or read book Going Rogue written by Sarah Palin and published by Harper Collins. This book was released on 2010-08-24 with total page 450 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On September 3, 2008, Alaska Governor Sarah Palin gave a speech at the Republican National Convention that electrified the nation and instantly made her one of the most recognizable women in the world. As chief executive of America’s largest state, she had built a record as a reformer who cast aside politics-as-usual and pushed through changes other politicians only talk about: Energy independence. Ethics reform. And the biggest private sector infrastructure project in U.S. history. While revitalizing public-school funding and ensuring the state met its responsibilities to seniors and Alaska Native populations, Palin also beat the political "good ol’ boys club" at their own game and brought Big Oil to heel. In this eagerly anticipated memoir, Palin paints an intimate portrait of growing up in the wilds of Alaska, meeting her lifelong love, her decision to enter politics, the importance of faith and family, and the unique joys and trials of life as a high-profile working mother. She also opens up for the first time about the 2008 presidential race, providing a rare mom's-eye view of high-stakes national politics—from patriots dedicated to "Country First" to slick politicos bent on winning at any cost. Going Rogue traces one ordinary citizen's extraordinary journey, and imparts Palin's vision of a way forward for America and her unfailing hope in the greatest nation on earth.

Book Synopsis Lazarus, Come Forth by : Michael A. Pinto
Download or read book Lazarus, Come Forth written by Michael A. Pinto and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2012 with total page 484 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While the Bible offers tantalizing clues about this important Christian hero, the questions far outweigh the answers. How did he know Jesus? When did he first believe that his friend was the Messiah? Where did his soul reside for four days? What did he do after his resurrection and the crucifixion of the One who saved him? Using painstaking research, early church records, and a lively plot that keeps the pages turning, Lazarus, Come Forth weaves a story about the family from Bethany described in John's Gospel. Although fiction, the story is consistent with Scripture and available historical data. It presents the life story of someone who lived his faith before receiving his miracle, as well as after. That is why Lazarus is a model for us all. Michael A. Pinto is a businessman who also has been called to pastor a small rural church. In addition to serving as the CEO for an environmental consulting firm and shepherding his congregation, Michael is a lifelong history buff with a particular focus on first century Christianity. After authoring several textbooks, he published his first novel in 2001 recounting the life story of the Apostle Thomas. The positive reception of that book, entitled The Twin, fueled his research and development of this story. In both these endeavors Michael attempts to fill in the "blank spaces" of the New Testament narratives with plausible connections and accurate descriptions of life at that time.

Download or read book Sheol Know! written by Dirk Waren and published by . This book was released on 2015-06-08 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What happens to the soul & spirit of unsaved people when they die? This refers to anyone who has not experienced spiritual regeneration through the gospel, which includes Old Testament saints. The Bible shows that the souls of these people go to (or went to) Sheol at the point of physical decease. Sheol corresponds to Hades. These souls will be resurrected from Sheol one day (Revelation 20:11-15), which is why Sheol/Hades is described as the "intermediate state" since it refers to the condition of unredeemed souls between physical death and later resurrection. So what's the state of souls in Sheol/Hades? Jesus' story of the rich man and Lazarus, if taken literal, suggests a conscious state where people either hang out in bliss with father Abraham or suffer constant fiery torment hoping for a mere drop of water for relief. SHEOL KNOW is an honest and thorough examination of the Scriptures to determine the precise nature of Sheol/Hades. Once you see what God's Word FULLY SAYS on the subject from Genesis to Revelation and not just a single tale that Jesus told, you'll see the truth and, as Jesus said, "the truth shall set you FREE."
