Book excerpt: Excerpt from Laws of Illinois Relating to Cities, Villages and Incorporated Towns: In Force July 1, 1901 In making this compilation of laws relating to cities, villages and incorporated towns of Illinois, it has seemed advisable to group them in two divisions. Part I contains the general act of 1872 for the organization of cities and villages and subsequent acts relating specifically to municipalities organized under this act of 1872. Part II includes acts and parts of acts relating to municipalities organized under both general and special laws. Most of the acts in Part II are applicable to all municipalities of the State, though a few of them relate to cities only, as distinguished from towns and villages, and others only to certain municipalities incorporated under special acts prior to 1872. Sections have been taken from those chapters of the revised statutes relating to schools, revenue, criminal code, parks and other subjects applicable to municipalities. The paragraph and chapter numbers of the statutes have been retained and are enclosed within brackets at the end of each section. In this, as in every compilation from the statutes, it is possible that a more judicious selection of matter might have been made, and a better possible arrangement adopted; but probably no grave errors have been made in either direction. With such imperfections as it may contain, it is hoped that this volume will prove a convenience to the municipal authorities of the State.
