Book Synopsis Law, Engineering, and the American Right-of-Way by : David Prytherch
Download or read book Law, Engineering, and the American Right-of-Way written by David Prytherch and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-04-13 with total page 215 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the geography of the everyday roadway and contemplates how regulation and design shape our streets. People may question the hegemony of cars, but reimagining public streets is a major conceptual and technical challenge. Drawing from “new mobilities” and transport studies, Prytherch addresses how streets are structured by policy standards; what it means to have a right to the street; and how a more just street would look—in both theory and practice. He summarizes key traffic statutes, case laws, and engineering manuals, and interprets these in relation to mobility rights and justice. At its core, the book moves beyond criticism to highlight emerging movements which aim to develop more complete and livable streets for everyone.

Download or read book Movement written by Thalia Verkade and published by Island Press. This book was released on 2024-05-02 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Movement: How to Take Back Our Streets and Transform Our Lives, journalist Thalia Verkade and mobility expert ("the cycling professor") Marco te Brömmelstroet take a three-year shared journey of discovery into the possibilities of our streets. They investigate and question the choices and mechanisms underpinning how these public spaces are designed and look at how they could be different. Verkade and te Brömmelstroet draw inspiration from the Netherlands and look at what other countries are doing, and could do, to diversify how they use their streets and make them safer. Making our communities safer, cleaner, and greener starts with asking these fundamental questions: who do our streets belong to, how do we want to use them, and who gets to decide? To truly transform mobility, we need to look far beyond the technical aspects and put people at the center of urban design. Movement will change the way that you view our streets.

This book was released on 2018-09-22 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Right-of-Way and Real Estate (US Federal Highway Administration Regulation) (FHWA) (2018 Edition) The Law Library presents the complete text of the Right-of-Way and Real Estate (US Federal Highway Administration Regulation) (FHWA) (2018 Edition). Updated as of May 29, 2018 The FHWA is revising its regulations governing the acquisition, management, and disposal of real property for transportation programs and projects receiving funds under title 23, United States Code. The revisions are prompted by enactment of the Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century Act (MAP-21). Section 1302 of MAP-21 includes new early acquisition flexibilities that can be used by State departments of transportation (SDOT) and other grantees of title 23 Federal-aid highway program funds. This final rule addresses the use of those new early acquisition flexibilities. The FHWA is also updating the real estate regulations to reflect the agency's experience with the Federal-aid highway program since the last comprehensive rulemaking for part 710, which occurred more than a decade ago. The update clarifies the Federal-State partnership, streamlines processes to better meet current Federal-aid highway program needs, and eliminates duplicative and outdated regulatory language. The enactment of the Fixing America's Surface Transportation (FAST) Act had a minimal effect on this rule. This book contains: - The complete text of the Right-of-Way and Real Estate (US Federal Highway Administration Regulation) (FHWA) (2018 Edition) - A table of contents with the page number of each section
