Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The special issue of International Yearbook of Futurism Studies for 2015 will investigate the role of Futurism in the œuvre of a number of Women artists and writers. These include a number of women actively supporting Futurism (e.g. Růžena Zátková, Edyth von Haynau, Olga Rozanova, Eva Kühn), others periodically involved with the movement (e.g. Valentine de Saint Point, Aleksandra Ekster, Mary Swanzy), others again inspired only by certain aspects of the movement (e.g. Natalia Goncharova, Alice Bailly, Giovanna Klien). Several artists operated on the margins of a Futurist inspired aesthetics, but they felt attracted to Futurism because of its support for women artists or because of its innovatory roles in the social and intellectual spheres. Most of the artists covered in Volume 5 (2015) are far from straightforward cases, but exactly because of this they can offer genuinely new insights into a still largely under-researched domain of twentieth-century art and literature. Guiding questions for these investigations are: How did these women come into contact with Futurist ideas? Was it first-hand knowledge (poems, paintings, manifestos etc) or second-hand knowledge (usually newspaper reports or personal conversions with artists who had been in contact with Futurism)? How did the women respond to the (positive or negative) reports? How did this show up in their œuvre? How did it influence their subsequent, often non-Futurist, career?

This book was released on 2014-03-01 with total page 147 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Simona Bianconi explores the creative process of writing, its communicative aspects and the traces of the writer himself in his creations, as well as the effect writing has on the personality of the author.Through the analysis of texts by six outstanding protagonists of the Italian novel in the first half of the 20th century, Bianconi gives answers to fascinating questions that arise about its creators and encourages the reader to experience and understand writing as a revelation of creativity and life.L'invenzione letteraria può dare vita a un secondo scrittore, a sua volta all'opera.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the half-century following Pavese's death, much that was written about him sought principally to understand and define his complex character, and to determine his place within the twentieth-century Italian literary canon. Latterly, there appears to have been a significant shift in focus towards a closer reading of individual works or aspects or periods of his writing, the better to analyse and reveal the subtleties and depth of his vision. This present collection of ten essays conforms broadly with this tendency. It is organised chronologically with regard to Pavese's life and works so as to convey a sense of the development of a writer, over and above the particular concerns of any given essay. The book features contributions from many leading experts on Pavese.

Book Synopsis Languaging Diversity Volume 3 by : Elena Di Giovanni
Download or read book Languaging Diversity Volume 3 written by Elena Di Giovanni and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2018-07-27 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Languages, diversity and power: these are the concepts running through all chapters in this volume. Rooted in linguistics, translation studies and literary studies, often informed by cultural and political studies, postcolonial theory and history, the contributions here tackle the thorny issue of power relations as expressed, enforced, dismissed through the use of language(s). From the British press, to power relations as represented in TV series set in courtrooms, and from language-power intersections in the translation of Italian post-war cinema to power enforcement through film-making in Africa, the volume spans decades and continents, providing in-depth analyses of a host of contexts, facts, actions. As such, it will be of particular interest to scholars and students in linguistics, translation and cultural studies.

This book was released on 2018-12-20 with total page 465 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Συναγωνίζεσθαι, the ancient Greek verb chosen as the title of this volume, belongs to the jargon of dramaturgy as employed by Aristotle inPoetics, where he emphasizes the function of the Chorus as an active co-protagonist in the dynamics of drama. Here it suggests the collaborative nature of this Festschrift offered to Guido Avezzù in the year of his retirement by friends and colleagues. The volume collects a wide selection of contributions by international scholars, grouped into four sections: Greek Tragedy (Part 1), Greek Comedy (Part 2), Reception (Part 3), and Theatre and Beyond (Part 4). Book excerpt: Giose Rimanelli and Achille Serrao met for the first time in this scant collection of sonnets written under the aegis of the gaze, of certain thematic and stylistic preferences that include the use of dialect, of a marked experimentation and transgressiveness always undermining the classical model of the sonnet. The "dreamed America" is finally reached with melancholy.
