Book Synopsis Philosophical Analysis in Latin America by : J.J. Gracia
Download or read book Philosophical Analysis in Latin America written by J.J. Gracia and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 429 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Historians of Latin American philosophy have paid relatively little attention to the development of philosophical analysis in Latin America. There are two reasons for this neglect: First, they have been primarily concerned with the forma tive period of philosophical development, in particular with the so called "founders" of La ti n American philosophy. And second. philosophical analysis did not become a noticeable philosophical trend in Latin America until recent years. True. a nunber of Latin American philosophers took notice of Moore. Russell. the members of the Vienna Circle and other important figures in the analytic movement qui te early. But these were isolated instances that lacked the sustained effort and broad base indispensible to make a serious impact in the development of Latin American philosophy. That has changed now. There are not only good numbers of philosophers who work within the analytic tradition, but also some journals and institutes dedicated to the analytic mode of philosophizing. It is. therefore. most appropriate to publish a collection of articles which would introduce the reader of philosophy to the most representative analytic material produced so far in Latin America. Indeed. it is not only appropriate. but also necessary. since most of the published analytic literature to date is scattered in various journals, sometimes of difficult access. Moreover, not all that has been published is representative of the best already produced and of the potential that the movement has in Latin America.

This book was released on 2006 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Using as a primary focus the manner in which Protestant and Catholic paradigms of the Word affect the understanding of how meaning manifests itself in material language, this book develops a history of literacy between the middle of the sixteenth century and the middle of the seventeenth century. The author emphasizes how literacy is defined according to changing concepts of philological manifestation and embodiment, and how various social and political factors influence these concepts. The study looks at literary texts such as The Fairie Queene, early Shakespearean comedies, sermons and poems by John Donne, Latin textbooks and religious primers, and educational and religious treatises which illustrate how language could be used to perform spiritual functions. The cross section of texts serves to illustrate the pervasive applicability of the author's theories to early modern literature and culture, and their relationship to literature. the study of sixteenth- and seventeenth-century literature: Protestant reading and exegetical strategies in contrast with Catholic strategies, and secular versus spiritual literacies.

Book Synopsis Introduction to Intersectional Qualitative Research by : Jennifer Esposito
Download or read book Introduction to Intersectional Qualitative Research written by Jennifer Esposito and published by SAGE Publications. This book was released on 2021-04-21 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recipient of a 2022 Most Promising New Textbook Award from the Textbook & Academic Authors Association (TAA) Introduction to Intersectional Qualitative Research, by Jennifer Esposito and Venus Evans-Winters, introduces students and new researchers to the basic aspects of qualitative research including research design, data collection, and analysis, in a way that allows intersectional concerns to be infused throughout the research process. Esposito and Evans-Winters infuse their combined forty years of experience conducting and teaching intersectional qualitative research in this landmark book, the first of its kind to address intersectionality and qualitative research jointly for audiences new to both. The book’s premise is that race and gender matter, and that racism and sexism are institutionalized in all aspects of life, including research. Each chapter opens with a vignette about a struggling researcher emphasizing that reflecting on your mistakes is an important part of learning. Discussion questions at the end of each chapter help instructors generate dialogue in class or in groups. Introduction to Intersectional Qualitative Research makes those identities and structures central to the task of qualitative study.
Book Synopsis The Future of the Past by : Georgios K Giannakis
Download or read book The Future of the Past written by Georgios K Giannakis and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2024-10-07 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collective volume contains 27 original studies that address in a critical way the position of classical studies in the twenty-first century and its challenges, as captured in the oxymoron of the theme title 'the future of the past'. The relevance of classical antiquity is reflected in all aspects of modern life: the sciences, the linguistic forms, literary expressions, cultural tradition, religion and ethics, philosophical thinking, modes of argument, political theory, history, the arts, and an entire host of other areas--in a word, much of what modern man is. As the conversation between past and present is best demonstrated at the intersection of different disciplines and cultural trends, interdisciplinary and intercultural topics are discussed in the essays. The contributions are organized in thematic groups according to the topics and sub-topics covered, and explore new ways of viewing the values of the classical past and their relevance to the present and future of societies. The work is of special relevance to scholars interested in classical studies, ancient history, critical thinking, the reception of classical ideas in the modern world, and the relation of the past with the present and the future of humanity.
