Download or read book Rainer Maria Rilke written by Volker Dürr and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2006 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Influenced by Hegel and Nietzsche, and inspired by stays in Italy and France, as well as travels to Russia, Spain, and North Africa, Rainer Maria Rilke nevertheless sought desperately to be original. He rejected all «idées reçues, » whether they were of God, reality, or literature, instead creating his own absolute. He searched for the «real, » re-formed German poetry, and revolutionized Western narrative prose with Malte Laurids Brigge. While Rilke's work is marked by two cesuras, after which it displays important advances in diction and the figuration of verbal icons, it becomes ever more esoteric. However, there are also constants throughout his oeuvre in thematics, topoi, and diction - for example, the preoccupation with death, figures such as the angel, key nouns, alliterations, and noun sequences. His fear of death drove him to adopt «the open, » an idea conceived by the dubious mystagogue Alfred Schuler that surfaces throughout Rilke's poetry and triumphs in Sonnets to Orpheus and Duino Elegies.
Book Synopsis The Theatres of Moliere by : Gerry McCarthy
Download or read book The Theatres of Moliere written by Gerry McCarthy and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2005-06-29 with total page 417 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Moliere's plays are the cornerstone of the French Classical dramatic repertoire. Adapted and exploited in his day by dramatists of the English Restoration, they are now again growing in popularity. In this detailed and fascinating volume, Gerry McCarthy examines the practice and method of possibly the greatest actor-dramatist. From the rough farces of Moliere's days on the road to the creation of the diverse and spectacular court entertainments on his return to Paris, McCarthy sheds new light on the dramatic intelligence and theatrical understanding of Moliere's writing for the actor. Drawing on Moliere's own brief discussions of performance and the contemporary evidence of his practice, this is a crucial addition to the debate on style and method in classical acting and on the staging of classical plays on the contemporary stage.

Book Synopsis Cixous's Semi-Fictions by : Mairead Hanrahan
Download or read book Cixous's Semi-Fictions written by Mairead Hanrahan and published by Edinburgh University Press. This book was released on 2014-09-15 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hélène Cixous, author of over forty works of fiction, was deemed by Derrida to be the greatest living writer in French in 1990. Consistent with this evaluation, her writing is renowned for its dense poetical texture and lyricism. At the same time, she has been described by one of Derrida's translators, Peggy Kamuf, as 'one of our age's greatest semi-theoreticians'. Connecting these views, Hanrahan argues for a consideration of her texts as 'semi-fictions'. She offers an in-depth reading of five different texts, addressing their idiomatic specificity and investigating how the textual fabric unfolds.
