Book Synopsis Functionally Graded Materials 1996 by : I. Shiota
Download or read book Functionally Graded Materials 1996 written by I. Shiota and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1997-09-02 with total page 803 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since a formulated concept of functionally graded materials (FGMs) was proposed in 1984 as a means of preparing thermal barrier materials, a coordinated research has been developed since 1986. The 125 papers presented here present state of the art research results and developments on FGM from the past decade.A wide spectra of topics are covered including design and modeling, fracture analysis, powder metallurgical processes, deposition and spray processes, reaction forming processes, novel processes, material evaluation for structural applications, organic and intelligent materials. Three reviews associated with national research programs on FGMs promoted in Japan and Germany, and the historical perspective of FGM research in Europe are presented as well. The resulting work is recommended to researchers, engineers and graduate school students in the fields of materials science and engineering, mechanical and medical engineering.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This unique book commemorates the 65th birthday of Stephen H. Crandall - one of the founding fathers and most active developers and elucidators of the science of random vibrations. Leading scientists from all over the world have contributed 33 papers addressing almost every important problem of random vibrations. The book thus represents both the state-of-the-art as well as the most recent developments, and will appeal to those in industry and academia who want to achieve a rigorous understanding of the many facets of the subject. A thorough study of the book will also help lay the foundations for future directions in research.
Book Synopsis Thermomechanical Response of Shape Memory Alloy Hybrid Composites by : Travis L. Turner
Download or read book Thermomechanical Response of Shape Memory Alloy Hybrid Composites written by Travis L. Turner and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2001 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study examines the use of embedded shape memory alloy (SMA) actuators for adaptive control of the thermomechanical response of composite structures. A nonlinear thermomechanical model is presented for analyzing shape memory alloy hybrid composite (SMAHC) structures exposed to steady-state thermal and dynamic mechanical loads. Also presented are (1) fabrication procedures for SMAHC specimens, (2) characterization of constituent materials for model quantification, (3) development of the test apparatus for conducting static and dynamic experiments on specimens with and without SMA, (4) discussion of the experimental results, and (5) validation of the analytical and numerical tools developed in the study. Excellent agreement is achieved between the predicted and measured SAMHC responses including thermal buckling, thermal post-buckling and dynamic response due to inertial loading.
Book Synopsis Stresses in Beams, Plates, and Shells by : Ansel C. Ugural
Download or read book Stresses in Beams, Plates, and Shells written by Ansel C. Ugural and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2009-08-26 with total page 598 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Noted for its practical, student-friendly approach to graduate-level mechanics, this volume is considered one of the top references—for students or professioals—on the subject of elasticity and stress in construction. The author presents many examples and applications to review and support several foundational concepts. The more advanced concepts in elasticity and stress are analyzed and introduced gradually, accompanied by even more examples and engineering applications in addition to numerous illustrations.Chapter problems are carefully arranged from the basic to the more challenging. The author covers computer methods, including FEA and computational/equation-solving software, and, in many cases, classical and numerical/computer approaches.

Download or read book Proceedings of Symposium on Aerothermoelasticity written by David M. Jones and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 1028 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A symposium on Aerothermoelasticity was held to present the latest significant developments in each scientific area and engineering area that comprise the component parts of this technology. New and significant contributions were presented in four technical areas consisting of dynamic aerothermoelasticity (flutter), stability and control, thermodynamics and aerodynamics (or aerothermodynamics), and structures including material and construction concepts. Categories important and significant to each technical area are discussed state-of-the-art wise. In addition, 26 separate papers are given on items of special importance.
Book Synopsis Mechanics of Composite Materials by : Zvi Hashin
Download or read book Mechanics of Composite Materials written by Zvi Hashin and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 512 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mechanics of Composite Materials: Recent Advances covers the proceedings of the International Union of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (IUTAM) Symposium on Mechanics of Composite Materials. The book reviews papers that emphasize fundamental mechanics, developments, and unresolved problems of the field. The text covers topics such as mechanical properties of composite materials; influence of microstructure on the thermoplastics and transport properties of particulate and short-fiber composites; and further applications of the systematic theory of materials with disordered constitution. The selection also explains the curved thermal crack growth in the interface of a unidirectional carbon-aluminum composite and energy release rates of various microcracks in short-fiber composites. The book will be of great interest to researchers and professionals whose line of work requires the understanding of the mechanics of composite materials.
