Es soll den Versuch darstellen über die Geschichte einer Region auch die sprachlichen Gegebenheiten zu verstehen, was im Falle von diesen beiden Regionen äußerst interessant, aber auch schwierig ist, da es einen ständigen Wechsel gab und bis nach Ende des 2. Weltkrieges keine Ruhe und Beständigkeit einkehren konnte. In diesem Sinne versuche ich zuallererst einen geschichtlichen Abriss von der Frühzeit bis nach dem zweiten Weltkrieg zu erstellen und die wichtigsten Entwicklungen zu erklären, wie zum Beispiel die verschiedenen Epochen unter französischer oder deutscher Herrschaft. Ein Extrapunkt gilt Teilen der lothringischen Geschichte, da diese sich zu bestimmten Zeiten nicht mit der des Elsass überschneidet, in anderen aber doch. Somit habe ich versucht, kleine Unterschiede hervorzuheben, da es sich ja nicht um eine geschlossene Region handelt. Nach dem geschichtlichen Überblick wende ich mich der Sprachgeschichte der beiden Regionen zu und versuche hier auch wieder einen chronologischen Abriss der Entwicklungen zu erstellen, sowie auch kurz die beiden Dialektgruppen zu beschreiben. Meine Arbeit endet mit einem Ausblick in die Zukunft um alle drei Bereiche, Vergangenheit, Gegenwart und Zukunft, abzudecken und somit einen panoramaartigen Überblick zu verschaffen.
