Book Synopsis The Writing of Business by : Robert P. Inkster
Download or read book The Writing of Business written by Robert P. Inkster and published by Longman Publishing Group. This book was released on 1999 with total page 724 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Writing of Business sees writing as an essential tool for creating personal and organizational strategies for managing an increasingly complex workplace. To help students use their writing to attain these goals, the authors have employed a powerful heuristic: GRACE. GRACE represents five essential kinds of generative questions - Goals, Readers, Arguments, Conventions, and Expression - for analyzing a writing situation and generating specific questions leading to effective written documents. Grounded in rhetoric, The Writing of Business contextualizes traditional sentence and paragraph conventions within the realities of the business world, such as globalization, outsourcing, and constantly changing technology. A business writing text that is reader-friendly in both content and voice, The Writing of Business equips students for a radically changed workplace. This book presents a vision of writing as an activity that is central and essential to doing business in the 21st Century.

Book excerpt: The countries of central and eastern Europe, that have become members of the Council of Europe, have infrastructure deficits that cannot be overcome with public funds. This study shows that public -private partnerships (PPP) can be a suitable tool for carrying our spatial development measures. They are not however as substitute for efficient administration at local and regional levels. The purpose of this study is to underpin the Guiding Principles for Sustainable Spatial Development of the European Continent, which were adopted at the 12th session of the European Conference of Ministers responsible for Regional Planning of the Council of Europe member States (CEMAT), held in Hanover in September 2000.

Book excerpt: Based on cases and interviews in Britain, Europe and the United States, this book explains the recurrence of regional planning and of initiatives in regional governance, in a wide range of advanced industrial countries. Providing an analysis of the nature of regional planning and governance, the book traces the development of regional planning and the institutions associated with it. It also looks at the way that regions have been changing their form under pressure from economic and political developments and examines how regional planning and governance has responded, comparing experience in the UK, the rest of Europe and the US. In concluding that regionalism is an imperative feature of politics in most countries, associated with almost any of the variety of forms of governance, the author offers a major appraisal of the significance of regional planning in an intemational context

Book Synopsis Planning and the Political Market by : Mark Pennington
Download or read book Planning and the Political Market written by Mark Pennington and published by A&C Black. This book was released on 2000-09-01 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Planning and the Political Market argues that the enthusiasm for planning as an essential component of environmental protection is misplaced. Drawing on the experience of Britain and other Western democracies, the author uses public choice theory to explore the practical experience of land use planning as an example of government failure. The book opens by outlining the institutional focus of public choice theory, examining the central questions of market and government failure and the theoretical case for government intervention in the environment. Having explored the principal impacts of planning the book goes on to analyse the institutional structures which have produced these policy outcomes. The analysis suggests that institutional incentives within the 'political market' have frequently led to policies which favour special interest groups and public sector bureaucracy. The book concludes with an assessment of the potential for a private property rights, free market alternative to increase community involvement and access.
