The 037, the S4, the EVC and the ECV2, "ephemeral player" of a still-born Group S, were the unforgettable protagonists of the 1982-1986 seasons that for the Lancia marque were constellated by a series of World, European and Italian titles, but also by terrible accidents that cost the lives of Attilio Bettega, Henri Toivonen and Sergio Cresto. Sergio Remondino, a historic journalist and great expert in the multifaceted field of rallying, traces that unforgettable era, year by year, through a text rich in anecdotes and thanks to the contribution of the engineer Sergio Limone, one of the artificers of the Group B cars. This invaluable book is completed by the evocative images of Reinhard Klein, one of the most successful rallying photographers.

Book excerpt: "I will build a car for the great multitude," stated Henry Ford, and so he did. The Ford Model T, or the 'Tin Lizzie' and the 'Flivver' as it was also known, transformed American society, bringing mobility through car ownership to millions of middle-class Americans at a time when the horse and the railroad were the only real viable means of transport. Using moving assembly lines and the best possible materials, between October 1908 and May 1927, Ford built around 16.5 million examples of this extraordinary car. By 1918, half of all cars built in America were Model Ts and by 1925 around 8,000 a day were being produced, making Henry Ford one of the world's best-known manufacturers of automobiles. The selection of body styles varied from two- and four-seat open and closed models - tourers, town cars, runabouts, landaulettes and cabriolets - to vans and pick-up trucks, and customers could also have colours other than black!

Maximum Mini takes a deep dive into almost 60 different Minis. You’ll get specs, facts, tons of high-quality photographs, and more on vehicles like Mini Marcos and Unipower GT, the very obscure, and very exciting, Coldwell GT and Sarcon Scarab, and loads more. Maximum Mini goes directly to the source with its information; much of it coming directly from interviews with original designers and build teams. Some cars that were thought to be long gone were even found during the researching of this book!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During 1986 there were several fatal accidents to competitors and spectators involving Group B cars during events of the World Rally Championship. The governing body of motorsport, the FIA, decided that the regulations concerning which cars were eligible to enter the WRC had to be changed and they opted to go for Group A where 5,000 cars of a particular model had to be manufactured in order to qualify. The change was implemented within six months of the decision being taken and thus at the beginning of 1987 season, there were very few cars that both qualified and were also competitive. The rally stars from the previous era like Walter Röhrl, Hannu Mikkola, Juha Kakkunen and Markku Alén were still there with new stars like Carlos Sainz, Didier Auriol, Tommi Mäkinen and Colin McRae emerging. Rallying technology was forced to undergo an almost complete re-start and it took some time before more than just one or two manufacturers could produce a winner. When they did, the side-effect was astounding with thousands of four-wheel drive, turbocharged road cars coming onto the global market. The new McKlein book, Group A: When Rallying created Road Car Icons, covers the ten years from 1987 to 1996 when Group A went from featuring fairly unexciting road cars to exotic, hi-tech rally cars whose performance was not much less than their predecessors. As well as an overview of the major events, the leading cars and crews, the factory teams, the changes of regulations--both technical and sporting--as well as results of all the major events and the championships associated with them, the books are lavishly illustrated with photographs from the famous McKlein archive. In addition, there are many stories of incidents and occurrences that give the reader an insight into just what rallying was like during the period covered and how Lancia, Ford, Toyota, Subaru and Mitsubishi fought for the WRC title.

Book excerpt: The Lancia Delta Integrale is one of the best known and most successful rally cars there has ever been. Dominating the sport after the demise of Group B, the Integrale led the field from the mid-eighties to the early nineties. But these potent rally machines weren't just available to professional rally drivers. Because of the homologation rules that demanded that all Group A cars be taken from a production run of at least 1000 cars intended for sale to the general public, every new incarnation of the rally machine made another batch of road-going clones available. These cars - every bit as exciting as their off-road sisters - were and still are highly sought-after.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When launched at the Geneva motor show in 1971, the Lamborghini Countach was like a vision of the future, with its incredibly radical styling by Bertone's Marcello Gandini. Through various evolutionary stages, the Countach remained in production from 1973 to 1990 and during that time 1,997 examples were manufactured, making it exceedingly rare as well as highly desirable. Subsequently the magnificent Countach has risen to almost mythical status among collectors and enthusiasts. Now, as the model approaches its 50th anniversary, two passionate and deeply knowledgeable Countach co-owners have written an authoritative new book -- the first English-language study of the car for 30 years -- to celebrate this fabled Italian supercar in all its glory. The Countach's spectacular design and unique engineering are explored in depth, including analysis of its Bizzarrini-designed V12 engine with forward-mounted gearbox (giving 'south-north' orientation), intricate spaceframe chassis and aerodynamics. Painstaking development of the original LP500 prototype into the final LP400 production version is covered in detail, with insights into the work of key figures Paolo Stanzani, Giampaolo Dallara, Bob Wallace and Massimo Parenti. Production evolution is explained, from LP400 to LP400S and LP500S, then the definitive 5000 Quattrovalvole (QV) versions with four-valve cylinder heads, culminating in the '881/2' and '25th Anniversary' models. For today's owners and aspiring owners, matters of maintenance and restoration are investigated, with plenty of personal perspective. Speaking from the heart: Thillainathan Pathmanathan describes a 30-year journey towards Countach ownership, including visits to the Sant'Agata factory and encounters with significant people in the Countach story. Tonino Lamborghini, son of founder Ferrucio Lamborghini, provides a special chapter dispelling common myths, misconceptions and mistakes about the cars and the company. Comprehensive presentation of data includes the best available information on the thorny subject of chassis numbering and production figures. Beautifully designed and illustrated, this book will be treasured not only by Lamborghini fans but anyone who adores sports cars, especially of the exotic Italian variety.

Book excerpt: From bestselling author, racer and stunt driver Ben Collins - the man who was The Stig - comes a story of spies, speed and hard-driving genius: a driver's love letter to one of the world's best-loved machines.Aston Martin's first, wickedly fast models were forged at a time when Ferrari's premises at Maranello was nothing but a ploughed field. This book celebrates a century of innovators who kept the fire burning brightly for over a century, from the visionary pioneers Martin and Bamford to modern-day design guru Adrian Newey; from a glamorous web of pre- and post-war spies and racing drivers, to David Brown and the achingly beautiful DB models beloved of Bonds past and present.Ben Collins explores the car with the double-o prefix from a unique perspective behind the wheel, carving through country lanes in his father's V8 Vantage, driving Aston Martins in four James Bond movies and competing against them in the legendary Le Mans 24-hour race.Ultimately, this is a very British success story: of a triumph of engineering that has burned brightly from the Roaring 20s to the 2020s, and an iconic car that never says die.
