Book excerpt: Laminar, steady flows of an incompressible viscous fluid between parallel plane walls one of which is porous, and between concentric circular cylinders with the outer one porous, are studied theoretically for the case of uniform wall flow (both suction and injection) and stationary walls. Similarity solutions of the equations of motion are obtained by numerical integration and also by a perturbation method and by an integral approximation. Deviation of the calculated axial velocity profile and pressure distribution from those corresponding to flow in impermeable ducts was produced more by fluid withdrawal than by injection of fluid through the porous wall. Also, the cross flow required to produce an adverse pressure gradient or an axial velocity profile with an inflection point or a vanishing wall slope, rose sharply as the radius ratio of annulus was increased so as to approximate the flat channel geometry. The numerical solutions for the channel include cases of reverse flow at the impermeable wall. The construction of an annular channel consisting of a stationary shaft and a porous pipe, to be used in the subsequent experimental portion of this work, is also described. (Author).

Download or read book Convection in Porous Media written by D.A. Nield and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-02-23 with total page 672 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nonprofit organizations are suffering from the continuing economic downturn. Donations are decreasing while demand for services is growing, forcing these organizations to be increasingly efficient and effective with their funds. This book introduces the reader to the basic concepts of project management. It provides approaches and templates to help nonprofit managers quickly implement practices to help them manage their limited resources, both financial and volunteer. The book also provides a tool to help the project team determine which practices are most appropriate. The book explores how social media and other technology tools can be used to assist in the management of time-sensitive projects and shows how project portfolio management can be a tool to assist in communications with boards of directors and other governing entities. The project portfolio is a tool that development office managers can easily implement and adopt to facilitate resource assignment. Finally, the book offers three case studies of nonprofit projects that went awry and shows how project management would have assisted.

As the standard reference in the field, this book will be essential to researchers and practicing engineers, while remaining an accessible introduction for graduate students and others entering the field. The new edition features 2700 new references covering a number of rapidly expanding fields, including the heat transfer properties of nanofluids and applications involving local thermal non-equilibrium and microfluidic effects.
Book Synopsis Liquid Acquisition Devices for Advanced In-Space Cryogenic Propulsion Systems by : Jason William Hartwig
Download or read book Liquid Acquisition Devices for Advanced In-Space Cryogenic Propulsion Systems written by Jason William Hartwig and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2015-11-21 with total page 489 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Liquid Acquisition Devices for Advanced In-Space Cryogenic Propulsion Systems discusses the importance of reliable cryogenic systems, a pivotal part of everything from engine propulsion to fuel deposits. As some of the most efficient systems involve advanced cryogenic fluid management systems that present challenging issues, the book tackles issues such as the difficulty in obtaining data, the lack of quality data and models, and the complexity in trying to model these systems. The book presents models and experimental data based on rare and hard-to-obtain cryogenic data. Through clear descriptions of practical data and models, readers will explore the development of robust and flexible liquid acquisition devices (LAD) through component-level and full-scale ground experiments, as well as analytical tools. This book presents new and rare experimental data, as well as analytical models, in a fundamental area to the aerospace and space-flight communities. With this data, the reader can consider new and improved ways to design, analyze, and build expensive flight systems. Presents a definitive reference for design ideas, analysis tools, and performance data on cryogenic liquid acquisition devices Provides historical perspectives to present fundamental design models and performance data, which are applied to two practical examples throughout the book Describes a series of models to optimize liquid acquisition device performance, which are confirmed through a variety of parametric component level tests Includes video clips of experiments on a companion website
