'Tis worse than widow I become, More than desolate, To face a worse than empty home Without child or mate. 'Twas not my strife askt him his life When it was but begun, Nor mine, I was a new-made wife And now I am none; Nor mine that many a sapless ghost Wails in sorrow-fare - But this does cost my pride the most, That bloodshedding to share. Why should you count Time, dear Dives? You have only to enjoy all the time there is. Make the most of every moment. When it is finished, live in the next. For the rich, time crawls. It is by those who work that Time must be counted, because in the space he allows to them they must make their money. This is the reason why, to men who work, he flies, he gallops. Lord! How short is the day when it is spent in work! What says the song, my own song? Long is long for those who toil not, Only long - for those who play. Book excerpt: This remarkable first novel from award-winning short fiction writer Ken Scholes will take readers away to a new world—an Earth so far in the distant future that our time is not even a memory; a world where magick is commonplace and great areas of the planet are impassable wastes. But human nature hasn't changed through the ages: War and faith and love still move princes and nations. In Lamentation, the first entry in the Psalm of Isaak series, an ancient weapon has completely destroyed the city of Windwir. From many miles away, Rudolfo, Lord of the Nine Forest Houses, sees the horrifying column of smoke rising. He knows that war is coming to the Named Lands. Nearer to the Devastation, a young apprentice is the only survivor of the city—he sat waiting for his father outside the walls, and was transformed as he watched everyone he knew die in an instant. Soon all the Kingdoms of the Named Lands will be at each others' throats, as alliances are challenged and hidden plots are uncovered. The Psalms of Isaak #1 Lamentation #2 Canticle #3 Antiphon #4 Requiem #5 Hymn At the Publisher's request, this title is being sold without Digital Rights Management Software (DRM) applied.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Century Bible, Vol. 2: Jeremiah and Lamentations In sending forth the second volume of this work I desire to renew my thanks to the scholars named in the Preface of the first volume, and add an expression of gratitude to those whose writings have been helpful for the Commentary on Lamentations, especially Lohr, Budde, and Cheyne. I am grateful for the cordial welcome which the first volume has received, and trust that its successor may be equally fortunate. I should like, however, to take this opportunity of meeting some criticisms which have been urged in a friendly spirit by two competent reviewers. Prof. Jordan (Review of Theology and Philosophy, vol. vi) thinks that it would have been an improvement to print the 'poems of Jeremiah' in parallel lines. But this would have been to depart from the practice which obtains in the series; it would have made demands on space that could be ill afforded; and the permission to print the Revised Version hardly included the permission to rearrange it. And where a text has been so expanded by glosses as is often the case with ours, the attempt to indicate poetical structure could not be satisfactorily carried through; since the poetical form could not be indicated unless the glosses were removed from the text. But in a work like the present the editor has no right to tamper with the Revisers' text. What Prof. Jordan wishes is an admirable object in itself; but could be legitimately attained only in an independent translation. On the criticism that too much space is taken up for the quotation of conflicting opinions I may say that my practice was adopted quite deliberately.
