Book excerpt: LAMB AND ANTI-LION delves deeper than its forerunner, 'Yang and Anti-Yin', into the noumenal sensibility of metaphysics, and this in turn permits of a clarification of other elemental positions which, under the guiding light of new findings, are proportionately modified and/or revaluated (re-evaluated). All in all, LAMB AND ANTI-LION lays down well-nigh definitive criteria of salvation and counter-damnation which leave the alpha-stemming extrapolative fudges of Catholic tradition categorically in its wake!

Book excerpt: The Lamb Will Slaughter the Lion by Margaret Killjoy pits utopian anarchists against rogue demon deer in this dropkick-in-the-mouth punk fantasy that Alan Moore calls "scary and energetic." Searching for clues about her best friend’s mysterious suicide, Danielle ventures to the squatter, utopian town of Freedom, Iowa, and witnesses a protector spirit — in the form of a blood-red, three-antlered deer — begin to turn on its summoners. She and her new friends have to act fast if they’re going to save the town — or get out alive. “Intelligent and fiercely imagined.” —Alan Moore “A dark story of the human need for power.” —Eileen Gunn “Daring anti-fantasy.”— Nick Mamatas “A unique bite of punk culture.” — Delilah S. Dawson “Important, thought-provoking...thrilling ride.” —Lewis Shiner “Always vivid.”—Tobias Buckell “As relatable as it is harrowing.” —Leanna Renee Hieber “Utterly engrossing...it refuses to let you go.” —Mur Lafferty At the Publisher's request, this title is being sold without Digital Rights Management Software (DRM) applied.

Book excerpt: This quartet of books of aphoristic philosophy with a Social Theocratic dimension is comprised of 'Yang and Anti-Yin', 'Lamb and Anti-Lion', 'Celestial City and Anti-Vanity Fair' and, last but by no means least, 'Jesus - A Summing Up!', the title of which is a kind of oblique tribute to Arthur Koestler's estimable 'Janus - A Summing Up', which, however, would not have much bearing on the aforementioned works in terms of thematic structure, as germane, by and large, to the noumenal distinction between metaphysics and antimetachemistry, as explained in the texts.

It is the report of dueling marks, of closed and open books, of words to be revealed and words to be sealed. It is the account of a river sent out to destroy and a river sent out to provide healing and life. It is the description of a glorious throne and a smoke-filled pit. It is the story of a harlot and a pure bride. But the outcome is never in question. After all, this is the story of the Lion of Judah who is the Lamb of God.

Book excerpt: Teancum Leon, who goes by Tean, is a wildlife veterinarian. His life has settled into a holding pattern: he loves his job, he hates first dates, and he only occasionally has to deal with his neighbor Mrs. Wish’s cat-related disasters. All of that changes, though, when a man appears in his office, asking for help to find his brother. Jem is convinced that something bad has happened to Benny, and he thinks Tean might be able to help. Tean isn’t sure, but he’s willing to try. After all, Jem is charming and sweet and surprisingly vulnerable. Oh. And hot. Then things get strange: phone calls with no one on the other end of the line; surveillance footage that shows what might be an abduction; a truck that tries to run Tean and Jem off the road. As Tean and Jem investigate, they realize that Benny might have stumbled onto a conspiracy and that someone is willing to kill to keep the truth from coming out. But not everything is as it seems, and Tean suspects that Jem has been keeping secrets of his own.

Book excerpt: CELESTIAL CITY AND ANTI-VANITY FAIR, with its Bunyan-like connotations, brings what John O'Loughlin had been building towards in previous books, such as 'Yang and Anti-Yin' and 'Lamb and Anti-Lion', to its logical conclusion, underlining the gender distinctions that exist at all points of what he calls the intercardinal axial compass, so that a more comprehensively exacting approach to terminology is possible and categorically upheld. Hence the metaphysical and antimetachemical implications of the title are reflected on a parallel terminological basis which it becomes a philosophical principle and moral duty to systematically embrace.

The story continues with The Barrow Will Send What it May. Now a nascent demon-hunting crew on the lam, Danielle and her friends arrive in a small town that contains a secret occult library run by anarchists and residents who claim to have come back from the dead. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An easy to read introduction to the book of Revelation by a respected biblical scholar.; Do you find Revelation hard to understand? Help is at hand! Dr Pieter J. Lalleman, Tutor of Biblical Studies at Spurgeon’s College, London, takes the reader step by step through the challenges of the Bible’s last and most difficult to understand book. Details: The book of Revelation is first and foremost a letter addressed to seven churches in Asia Minor (modern day Turkey). Like any normal letter the book contains references to the situation of the readers. As later readers we look over the shoulders of the original readers into a correspondence which initially was not directed to us. Yet Revelation is also a prophetic book. John himself makes this claim in 1:3 and 22:7, 10, 18 and 19; in 10:11 his work is called prophesying. But what is prophecy in the Bible? People such as Elijah, Isaiah and Jeremiah were messengers of God who spoke his word to their contemporaries. God gave them spiritual insight into their time so that they could shine God’s light on it. They knew God’s precepts and applied these to the situation. Prophets warned people if they were not living as God wanted, but on the other hand they encouraged positive developments. Prophets pointed people to the consequences of their behavior and in that context they also spoke about the future. Jewish and Christian prophecy is thus not primarily a form of prediction of the future. It was first and foremost relevant for those who were being addressed; it confronted them with God’s opinion of their situation, with his hopes, his promises, and sometimes also with his judgement in case they would not listen. But when they repented, God adapted his plans, as we see in the book of Jonah. We will approach Revelation in the same way in which we handle all prophecy: by asking what kind of situation is in view and what was expected of the first hearers. Subsequently we will raise the question how this might be relevant to us in the twenty-first century. Revelation is a letter and a prophecy, but it is also an apocalyptic book. The Greek word for ‘revelation’ in 1:1 is ‘apocalypse’. We often use this word in such expressions as ‘an apocalyptic event’, but we must be careful that our modern language does not hinder our understanding of the Bible. Apocalyptic texts are books which claim to contain revelations about the heavenly world and/or about the future, but not necessarily about disasters. And they challenge us to check our behavior. The studies in this book discuss the more readily accessible parts of Revelation, with special attention to the connections of these passages with the Old Testament.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A fresh take on a familiar saying, perfect for the first rainy days of spring. Rattling windows with the roar of a late-winter storm, March shows up like a lion-- wild and messy, muddy and wet. In rhythmic, exuberant text, Newbery Honor-author Marion Dane Bauer conveys the changeable nature of spring weather, as the lion makes way for the lamb—with a huge sneeze!—as the trees and flowers spring into bloom. Full of humor and motion, Caldecott-winning illustrator Emily Arnold McCully's soft watercolors bring the blustering lion and gentle lamb to life. From hail and wet snow to vibrant green fields full of blossoms, the illustrations grow brighter, springing into new life—and hinting and the summer to come. The lively text and paintings illustrate the ways in which we personify spring weather, making this book a perfect introduction to figurative language—and lots of fun to read as well.
