Book Synopsis Moir's Guide South by : Geoff Spearpoint
Download or read book Moir's Guide South written by Geoff Spearpoint and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 251 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Moir's Guide South is well established as the standard route guide for all tramping tracks and routes in Fiordland National Park and adjacent areas. This is primarily a tramping guide to the valleys and passes; climbing in the Fiordland area is covered in The Darrans Guide (see Mountaineering Guides). Moir's Guide can be likened to Hone Heke's famous axe which had two new heads and three new handles. This sixth edition of Moir's Guide is the result of cumulative efforts by eight different editors and countless contributors over the last 70 years. Moir's Guide Book (Southern Section) was first published in 1925 and ever since has been recognised as the classic guide to the back-packing, tramping and hunting areas of Fiordland and now the Eyre, Snowdon and Takitimu Mountains. This completely revised and updated sixth edition describes every known track and route in these areas including New Zealands most famous walking tracks - the Milford, Routeburn, Hollyford, Greenstone-Caples, and Kepler Tracks. The less well known but equally spectacular Dusky and George Sound Tracks are also covered. The route and track descriptions are matched to the levels of experience parties are likely to have. For the popular tracks the information provided should enable those with little experience to find their way while those travelling through more challenging country will find the route descriptions indispensible. Moir's Guide South also contains essential advice on bushcraft, how to travel through untracked country following deer trails, and what to do should the party become overdue. It concludes with a glossary of New Zealand outdoor terms and a comprehensive index.

Download or read book Critical Zones written by Bruno Latour and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2020-10-13 with total page 473 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Artists and writers portray the disorientation of a world facing climate change. This monumental volume, drawn from a 2020 exhibition at the ZKM Center for Art and Media, portrays the disorientation of life in world facing climate change. It traces this disorientation to the disconnection between two different definitions of the land on which modernizing humans live: the sovereign nation from which they derive their rights, and another one, hidden, from which they gain their wealth—the land they live on, and the land they live from. Charting the land they will inhabit, they find not a globe, not the iconic “blue marble,” but a series of critical zones—patchy, heterogenous, discontinuous. With short pieces, longer essays, and more than 500 illustrations, the contributors explore the new landscape on which it may be possible for humans to land—what it means to be “on Earth,” whether the critical zone, the Gaia, or the terrestrial. They consider geopolitical conflicts and tools redesigned for the new “geopolitics of life forms.” The “thought exhibition” described in this book can opens a fictional space to explore the new climate regime; the rest of the story is unknown. Contributors include Dipesh Chakrabarty, Pierre Charbonnier, Emanuele Coccia, Vinciane Despret, Jerôme Gaillarde, Donna Haraway, Joseph Leo Koerner, Timothy Lenton, Richard Powers, Simon Schaffer, Isabelle Stengers, Bronislaw Szerszynski, Jan A. Zalasiewicz, Siegfried Zielinski Copublished with ZKM | Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe
