De nombreux exemples, et des réponses individuelles et collectives sont proposés, avec notamment le rôle de l'animation (chapitre original sur l'atelier mémoire) et la nécessité d'un projet de soins. Une troisième partie rappelle les principales fonctions de l'être humain et analyse les troubles et facteurs de risque propres à la personne âgée. Des problèmes cruciaux tels que les escarresdémences, la douleur, la mort sont abordés en détail, de même que des notions aujourd'hui essentielles dans l'univers gériatrique : maladie de Parkinson, maladie d'Alzheimer, syndrome de glissement, déshydratation, incontinence ou encore suicide. Témoin de l'évolution et de la diversité du rôle de l'aide-soignant, cet ouvrage est un outil incomparable pour « prendre soin » de la personne âgée en fonction de son vécu et de ses besoins, dans une dynamique de « bientraitance ».
