This book was released on 2019 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Salt stress decreases crop yield worldwide. I conducted two experiments using cultivated sunflower (Helianthus annuus) to improve understanding of salinity tolerance and the role of vigor and organ elemental concentrations therein. Vigor correlated with lower salt tolerance (greater proportional change in biomass). However, inconsistent genotypic rankings for vigor and tolerance suggest different tolerance mechanisms function at different times and stress intensities. When examining elemental allocation as a mechanism of tolerance, a combined allocation of less Na away from, more P and Zn away from, and an allocation of Fe away from mature leaves correlated with greater tolerance, though the physiological basis of the relationships are currently unknown. While providing direction for future studies, this thesis showed that defining salt tolerance as the proportional change in performance and analyzing elemental allocation between diverse organs can provide greater inference into salt tolerance mechanisms.

Book Synopsis Abiotic and Biotic Stress in Plants by : Arun Shanker
Download or read book Abiotic and Biotic Stress in Plants written by Arun Shanker and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2016-02-17 with total page 770 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The impact of global climate change on crop production has emerged as a major research priority during the past decade. Understanding abiotic stress factors such as temperature and drought tolerance and biotic stress tolerance traits such as insect pest and pathogen resistance in combination with high yield in plants is of paramount importance to counter climate change related adverse effects on the productivity of crops. In this multi-authored book, we present synthesis of information for developing strategies to combat plant stress. Our effort here is to present a judicious mixture of basic as well as applied research outlooks so as to interest workers in all areas of plant science. We trust that the information covered in this book would bridge the much-researched area of stress in plants with the much-needed information for evolving climate-ready crop cultivars to ensure food security in the future.

Book Synopsis Nanostructured Titanium Dioxide Materials by : Ali Reza Khataee
Download or read book Nanostructured Titanium Dioxide Materials written by Ali Reza Khataee and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2012 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the past decade, research and development in the area of synthesis and applications of different nanostructured titanium dioxide have become tremendous. This book briefly describes properties, production, modification and applications of nanostructured titanium dioxide focusing in particular on photocatalytic activity. The physicochemical properties of nanostructured titanium dioxide are highlighted and the links between properties and applications are emphasized. The preparation of TiO2 nanomaterials, including nanoparticles, nanorods, nanowires, nanosheets, nanofibers, and nanotubes are primarily categorized by their preparation method (sol-gel and hydrothermal processes). Examples of early applications of nanostructured titanium dioxide in dye-sensitized solar cells, hydrogen production and storage, sensors, rechargeable batteries, electrocatalysis, self-cleaning and antibacterial surfaces and photocatalytic cancer treatment are reviewed. The review of modifications of TiO2 nanomaterials is mainly focused on the research related to the modifications of the optical properties of TiO2 nanomaterials, since many applications of TiO2 nanomaterials are closely related to their optical properties. Photocatalytic removal of various pollutants using pure TiO2 nanomaterials, TiO2-based nanoclays and non-metal doped nanostructured TiO2 are also discussed.
