This book was released on 2019-02-08 with total page 379 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Anatomy and Histology of the Laboratory Rat in Toxicology and Biomedical Research presents the detailed systematic anatomy of the rat, with a focus on toxicological needs. Most large works dealing with the laboratory rat provide a chapter on anatomy, but fall far short of the detailed account in this book which also focuses on the needs of toxicologists and others who use the rat as a laboratory animal. The book includes detailed guides on dissection methods and the location of specific tissues in specific organ systems. Crucially, the book includes classic illustrations from Miss H. G. Q. Rowett, along with new color photo-micrographs. Written by two of the top authors in their fields, this book can be used as a reference guide and teaching aid for students and researchers in toxicology. In addition, veterinary/medical students, researchers who utilize animals in biomedical research, and researchers in zoology, comparative anatomy, physiology and pharmacology will find this book to be a great resource. - Illustrated with over a hundred black and white and color images to assist understanding - Contains detailed descriptions and explanations to accompany all images helping with self-study - Designed for toxicologic research for people from diverse backgrounds including biochemistry, pharmacology, physiology, immunology, and general biomedical sciences

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The International Life Sciences Institute (ILSI) was estab lished in 1978 to stimulate and support scientific research and educational programs related to nutrition, toxicology, and food safety, and to encourage cooperation in these programs among scientists in universities, industry, and government agencies to assist in the resolution of health and safety issues. To supplement and enhance these efforts, ILSI has made a major commitment to supporting programs to harmon ize toxicologic testing, to advance a more uniform inter pretation of bioassay results worldwide, to promote a common understanding of lesion classifications, and to encourage wide discussion of these topics among scien tists. The Monographs on the Pathology of Laboratory Ani mals are designed to facilitate communication among those involved in the safety testing of foods, drugs, and chemicals. The complete set will cover all organ systems and is intended for use by pathologists, toxicologists, and others concerned with evaluating toxicity and carcinogen icity studies. The international nature of the project - as reflected in the composition of the editorial board and the diversity of the authors and editors - strengthens our ex pectations that understanding and cooperation will be im proved worldwide through the series. Alex Malaspina President International Life Sciences Institute Preface This book, on the hemopoietic system, is the eighth volume of a set prepared under the sponsorship of the International Life Sciences In stitute (ILSI).

Book Synopsis The Microscopic Anatomy of the White Rat by : Esther M. Smith
Download or read book The Microscopic Anatomy of the White Rat written by Esther M. Smith and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This atlas is an outgrowth of a project on the histology of the white rat originally supported by the Upjohn Company, Kalamazoo, Michigan. For several years our friends and colleagues at the Upjohn Company, namely Dr. Ernest A. Feenstra and his staff, were aware of the need for a well-documented photographic atlas of normal tissues and organs of the laboratory rat. They sought the counsel of one of us (Dr. M. Lois Calhoun) to plan such an atlas. As the work progressed and interest in the plates grew, we began to search for means to make the material available to other investigators using the rat as an experimental animal. The Wistar strain rats supplied by the Upjohn Company of Kalamazoo were five to six weeks old and weighed approximately 120 grams. By the time the atlas was completed, we had processed about 40 animals. The drawings which precede each system are intentionally diagrammatic. They are anatomically correct in that all the organs are included, but in order to make the diagram more meaningful their positioning may not always be exact. The authors sincerely hope that this collection of photographs will be especially helpful to those scientists who use this remarkable animal for research and yet may not be entirely familiar with histology. We also believe this may help students in histology become familiar with the major organ systems."--adapted from Preface, pages 7-8.

Book Synopsis Necropsy Guide by : Donald B. Feldman
Download or read book Necropsy Guide written by Donald B. Feldman and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1988-03-31 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This laboratory guidebook provides step-by-step procedures that will aid in the dissection and collection of major organs and tissues of the most common species of small animals used in biomedical research. Through extensive use of photographs and illustrations, the dissector is guided through a complete necropsy of each species for the purpose of collecting the organs and tissues routinely examined by pathologists. The techniques described will enable the technician to perform necropsies on almost any mammal in a precise and logical sequence, and to properly collect tissue in order to avoid diagnostic errors. Morphological differences among the various species are discussed.
