Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Book Synopsis Meditation on the Divine Legitimacy of Man by : Bogdan J. Wnuk
Download or read book Meditation on the Divine Legitimacy of Man written by Bogdan J. Wnuk and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2009-07-02 with total page 287 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Meditation is the result of departing from and returning to Christianity. It is about tasting again the “salt” of Jesus’ teachings and rejoicing in imitating him, in our eternal life, which, for us “christians”, begins down here, on earth, and will continue on in heaven... The Catholic Church, which I served, as an altar boy from the age of 6 to the age of 18, made me a legalistic “robot” with little or no free will. I was engulfed in guilt and despair that I will never amount to anything good spiritually. One day, I quit trying to become a “good” catholic and went on a journey of discovery of other more “attractive” religions... only to find along the way that Jesus is the way!

Book Synopsis Travel, Translation and Transmedia Aesthetics by : Shuangyi Li
Download or read book Travel, Translation and Transmedia Aesthetics written by Shuangyi Li and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-01-03 with total page 263 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the works of four contemporary first-generation Chinese migrant writer-artists in France: François CHENG, GAO Xingjian, DAI Sijie, and SHAN Sa. They were all born in China, moved to France in their adulthood to pursue their literary and artistic ambitions, and have enjoyed the highest French and Western institutional recognitions, from the Grand Prix de la Francophonie to the Nobel Prize in Literature. They have established themselves not only as writers, but also as translators, calligraphers, painters, playwrights, and filmmakers mainly in their host country. French has become their dominant—but not only—language of literary creation (except for Gao); yet, linguistic idioms, poetic imagery, and classical thought from Chinese cultural heritage permeate their French texts and visual artworks, reflecting a strong translingual and transmedial sensibility. The book provides not only distinctive literary and artistic examples beyond existing studies of intercultural encounter, French postcolonial, and Chinese diasporic enquiries; more importantly, it formulates a theoretical model that captures the creative dynamics between the French/francophone and Chinese/sinophone spaces of articulation, thereby contributing to contemporary debates about literary and artistic production, interpretation, and circulation in the global development of comparative/world literature, as well as intermediality studies.

Book Synopsis Fraseología, Diatopía y Traducción / Phraseology, Diatopic Variation and Translation by : Pedro Mogorrón Huerta
Download or read book Fraseología, Diatopía y Traducción / Phraseology, Diatopic Variation and Translation written by Pedro Mogorrón Huerta and published by John Benjamins Publishing Company. This book was released on 2018-11-15 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In all languages, humans frequently use linguistic combinations called phraseological units (PUs) in communicative acts. These PUs are characterized by their institutionalized fixation and, in many cases, by their opacity. Traditionally, the work on phraseology has placed the emphasis on the total fixing of components and structures of verbal expressions. Variation in PUs is currently an uncontested fact and has been extensively studied and analyzed. In addition, in the case of languages like Spanish, English, French, spoken in many countries, new creations or diatopic variants arise. While these diatopic expressions have been collected or analyzed in their territory of influence, no comprehensive collection showing all the expressions and contrastive analysis to observe the similarities and differences between these diatopic creations with all their idiosyncratic and cultural references have been made so far. The content of this volume deals with numerous linguistic, lexicographic and translational problems in the context of language variation in general, as well as specifically related to diatopic variation. The aim is to make progress in these challenging and highly interesting areas which still pose many comprehension and translation problems.

Book Synopsis Encyclopedia of French Film Directors by : Philippe Rège
Download or read book Encyclopedia of French Film Directors written by Philippe Rège and published by Scarecrow Press. This book was released on 2009-12-11 with total page 1486 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cinema has been long associated with France, dating back to 1895, when Louis and Auguste Lumi_re screened their works, the first public viewing of films anywhere. Early silent pioneers Georges MZli_s, Alice Guy BlachZ and others followed in the footsteps of the Lumi_re brothers and the tradition of important filmmaking continued throughout the 20th century and beyond. In Encyclopedia of French Film Directors, Philippe Rège identifies every French director who has made at least one feature film since 1895. From undisputed masters to obscure one-timers, nearly 3,000 directors are cited here, including at least 200 filmmakers not mentioned in similar books published in France. Each director's entry contains a brief biographical summary, including dates and places of birth and death; information on the individual's education and professional training; and other pertinent details, such as real names (when the filmmaker uses a pseudonym). The entries also provide complete filmographies, including credits for feature films, shorts, documentaries, and television work. Some of the most important names in the history of film can be found in this encyclopedia, from masters of the Golden Age_Jean Renoir and RenZ Clair_to French New Wave artists such as Fran_ois Truffaut and Jean-Luc Godard.

Download or read book Exploding Aesthetics written by and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2021-11-08 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Today, many visual artists are giving the cold shoulder to the static, isolated concept of visual art and searching instead for novel, dynamic connections to different image strategies. Because of that, visual art and aesthetics are both forced to reconsider their current positions and their traditional apparatus of concepts. In that process, many questions surface. To mention a few: Could the characteristics of an artistic image and its specific manner of signification be determined in a world which is entirely aesthetisized? What would be the consequences of a variety of image strategies for aesthetic experience? Would it be possible to develop a form of cultural criticism by means of artistic activities in a culture awash in images? In order to answer such questions, aesthetics as a philosophy of art needs to transform its field into a critical philosophy of topical visual culture. As an impetus to such a reinterpretation of the visual working area, the L & B Series organized three symposia evenings under the title “Exploding Aesthetics”, in cooperation with De Appel Center for Contemporary Art, Amsterdam. Besides the presentations and discussions from these symposia, this volume includes various arguments, positions, and statements in both articles and interviews by a variety of visual artists, designers, advertising professionals, theorists and curators. The participants are: Mieke Bal, Annette W. Balkema, Peg Brand, Experimental Jetset, Liam Gillick, Jeanne van Heeswijk, Martin Jay, KesselsKramer, Friedrich Kittler, Maria Lind, Wim Michels, Nicholas Mirzoeff, Planet Art, Joke Robaard, Annemieke Roobeek, Remko Scha, Rob Schröder, Henk Slager, Richard Shusterman, Pauline Terreehorst, Wolfgang Welsch and Marie-Lou Witmer.
