Book Synopsis Adorno’s Nonidentical and Derrida’s Différance - For a Resurrection of Negative Dialectics by : Stefan Zenklusen
Download or read book Adorno’s Nonidentical and Derrida’s Différance - For a Resurrection of Negative Dialectics written by Stefan Zenklusen and published by Cuvillier Verlag. This book was released on 2020-11-06 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The virulent anti-Hegelianism of French poststructuralism and its (difficult) confrontation with Jürgen Habermas has long obscured the closeness of Jacques Derrida’s “différance” to Theodor W. Adorno’s “Nonidentical.” Taking the overarching theme of “identity and difference” as a guide, we can peel apart what unites and separates these two thinkers. In so doing, certain “de-realizing” effects of Derrida’s entrapment in signs reveal themselves. By contrast, Adorno’s social and cultural diagnosis, when extrapolated to a post-Fordian context is astonishingly fruitful. Attempts to trivialize negative dialectics as a model of intellectual self-understanding from a past age or as an esthetic reserve of ways of life are untenable.

Book Synopsis The Transformation of Political Culture 1789-1848 by : F. Furet

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This third volume in a much praised series on The French Revolution and the Creation of Modern Political Culture examines the way in which the Revolution has been portrayed in European thought and its impact upon the development of political philosophy in the nineteenth century. Opening with the influence of Burke and other contemporaries of the Revolution and the ensuing debate over the question "Why the Terror?", this volume explores such diverse themes as the legacy of the Revolution on the political and social evolution of Germany, England, Italy and Russia; the crisis it brought about in the Catholic Church; and the difficulties encountered in determining the end of the Revolution. By showing that the upheaval in European politics and philosophy caused by the French Revolution continued to shape nations, peoples and thought, the texts brought together in this volume permit a better understanding of the event's extraordinary complexity.

This book was released on 2008-06-03 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Comprehensive yet accessible, this key Handbook provides an up-to-date overview of the fast growing and increasingly important area of ‘public communication of science and technology’, from both research and practical perspectives. As well as introducing the main issues, arenas and professional perspectives involved, it presents the findings of earlier research and the conclusions previously drawn. Unlike most existing books on this topic, this unique volume couples an overview of the practical problems faced by practitioners with a thorough review of relevant literature and research. The practical Handbook format ensures it is a student-friendly resource, but its breadth of scope and impressive contributors means that it is also ideal for practitioners and professionals working in the field. Combining the contributions of different disciplines (media and journalism studies, sociology and history of science), the perspectives of different geographical and cultural contexts, and by selecting key contributions from appropriate and well-respected authors, this original text provides an interdisciplinary as well as a global approach to public communication of science and technology.

Book excerpt: English summary: This volume contains the expanded articles written by a group of specialists in comparative legal history, oriental law and ethnological legal research who dealt with various aspects of the position and the function of the judge in Western and Islamic law during the 30th conference for comparative law in Wurzburg in 2005. In both legal systems, the main issue is basically the just judge. Attempts to guarantee that justice is done by a judge can be made in various ways and can complement each other, such as for example through a selection according to general knowledge and honesty, preordained professional careers or rules of procedure for the trial.

Book Synopsis From Transnational Relations to Transnational Laws by : Shaheen Sardar Ali
Download or read book From Transnational Relations to Transnational Laws written by Shaheen Sardar Ali and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-04-15 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book approaches law as a process embedded in transnational personal, religious, communicative and economic relationships that mediate between international, national and local practices, norms and values. It uses the concept "living law" to describe the multiplicity of norms manifest in transnational moral, social or economic practices that transgress the territorial and legal boundaries of the nation-state. Focusing on transnational legal encounters located in family life, diasporic religious institutions and media events in countries like Norway, Sweden, Britain and Scotland, it demonstrates the multiple challenges that accelerated mobility and increased cultural and normative diversity is posing for Northern European law. For in this part of the world, as elsewhere, national law is challenged by a mixture of expanding human rights obligations and unprecedented cultural and normative pluralism enhanced by expanding global communication and market relations. As a consequence, transnationalization of law appears to create homogeneity, fragmentation and ambiguity, expanding space for some actors while silencing others. Through the lens of a variety of important contemporary subjects, the authors thus engage with the nature of power and how it is accommodated, ignored or resisted by various actors when transnational practices encounter national and local law.

Download or read book Psychodynamic Psychotherapy with Transactional Analysis written by Anna Emanuela Tangolo and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-05-16 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main values and principles of Transactional Analysis, in its original psychodynamic matrix, become a concrete experience in this book thanks to the accurate description of the daily practice of a long-experienced therapist: Anna Emanuela Tangolo. Analyzing several cases, the author examines the clinical tools of Berne's group therapy and the analysis of dreams, without however neglecting other important aspects such as preparing the setting or leading an interview. Particular relevance is given to the therapeutic relationship, seen as the interweaving of an experience in order to send stimuli to the patient so as to re-structure his or her intrapsychic world through rigorous and precise inputs, analysable in linguistic sequences. This book is meant not only for those who study psychotherapy, but also for anyone who wants to learn about clinical TA and its functioning.
