Book Synopsis Giuseppina Pizzigoni's 20th Century Pedagogy of the Kindergarten by : Sandra Chistolini
Download or read book Giuseppina Pizzigoni's 20th Century Pedagogy of the Kindergarten written by Sandra Chistolini and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2022-08-24 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Giuseppina Pizzigoni (1870-1947) was a pioneer of the change in the vision of school education in Italy, and an autonomous interpreter of the impulse of transformation that lies at the origin of the progressive school, the active school, and the new school in Europe and the USA. In 1907, she conceived of the renewal of the Italian school, anticipating the structure of the comprehensive school and incorporating the nursery school with infants and children from 0 to 3 years of age. In 1911, she created the first Rinnovata Pizzigoni building, still standing today in Milan. The book explores the real evolution of the experimental method introduced in infant schools, and shows how the initial pedagogical idea can develop creatively, without being an imitation of a previous model.

Book Synopsis Growing Up in Walltown, Italy by : Francesca Gobbo
Download or read book Growing Up in Walltown, Italy written by Francesca Gobbo and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2021-01-11 with total page 231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Growing up in Walltown, Italy presents an ethnographic account of the culture of early childhood education, as it is constructed in two municipal schools (a nursery and a childhood school) of an Italian town, explored through extensive participant observation and interviews of educators, teachers, school coordinators, mothers, and cooks and school staff. After providing background information on Italian early childhood education, the author describes and interprets the process of children's insertion into the world of the school as a "passage" whose ritual steps—initially accompanied by a parent—are carefully prepared by educators and teachers, so that the "passengers" will successfully settle in, and become competent members and participants of the respective educational communities. The author focuses on the educational and cultural learning that children between six months and five years of age attain by exercising their agency, capacity for communication, interaction and responsibility, and imagination in planned educational projects, daily activities as the "reading time" and convivial appointments as meals. The educators' and teachers' professional and personal engagement and care, together with the collaboration of the other school people, are thoroughly illustrated, and their meaningful attention to, and respect for children's pace of learning and participation are pointed out.

Book Synopsis Rethinking the Age of Emancipation by : Martin Baumeister
Download or read book Rethinking the Age of Emancipation written by Martin Baumeister and published by Berghahn Books. This book was released on 2020-03-20 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the end of the nineteenth century, traditional historiography has emphasized the similarities between Italy and Germany as “late nations”, including the parallel roles of “great men” such as Bismarck and Cavour. Rethinking the Age of Emancipation aims at a critical reassessment of the development of these two “late” nations from a new and transnational perspective. Essays by an international and interdisciplinary group of scholars examine the discursive relationships among nationalism, war, and emancipation as well as the ambiguous roles of historical protagonists with competing national, political, and religious loyalties.

Book Synopsis Anti-Southern Racism and Education in Post-War Italy by : Grazia De Michele
Download or read book Anti-Southern Racism and Education in Post-War Italy written by Grazia De Michele and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-02-24 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book investigates the racism against Southern Italian children attending North-Western primary schools between the 1950s and the 1970s. Turin serves as the main case study, having become the "third Southern city" after Naples and Palermo during the considered period. Far from being a new phenomenon, racism against Southern Italians gained renewed prominence in the context of the post-war mass internal migrations, becoming one of the pillars of the process of nation-rebuilding. However, in spite of its relevance, it has not received the attention it deserves. By drawing on a wide range of sources – printed, archival, photographic, and oral – and situating itself at the intersection of the history of racism, of education, of psychiatry, and of psychology, the book aims to fill this gap and to add to the debate on the borders that nation-states establish to control the access to power of the different groups inhabiting their territories. Its interdisciplinarity makes it suitable for students and researchers across a variety of subject areas.

Book excerpt: In a world that's constantly on the move and full of stress, finding ways to take care of our mental health can be a challenge. With the COVID-19 pandemic affecting our lives in unprecedented ways, prioritizing our mental wellbeing has become even more critical, especially for those who are older or living in suburban areas; feelings of isolation and anxiety can be overwhelming. That's why the therapeutic benefits of reading are being rediscovered and are gaining renewed attention. However, what needs to be added is a comprehensive resource that delves deeper into the therapeutic value of reading, particularly in the context of bibliotherapy. Improving Mental Health and Wellbeing Through Bibliotherapy addresses this gap by bringing together experts from literary studies, psychology, and education. Through their insights, readers will understand how literature can be used for healing and personal growth. By exploring topics such as anxiety, brain neurology, children's literature, and stress management, this book provides practical strategies for incorporating reading into daily life to promote mental wellbeing.
Book Synopsis Difference and Sameness in Schools by : Laura Gilliam
Download or read book Difference and Sameness in Schools written by Laura Gilliam and published by Berghahn Books. This book was released on 2024-04-01 with total page 507 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Presenting European Anthropology of Education through eleven studies of European schools, this volume explores the constructing and handling of difference and sameness in the central institutions of schools. Based on ethnographic studies of schools in Greece, England, Norway, Italy, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Spain, Austria, Russia, Germany, the Netherlands and Denmark, it illustrates how anthropological studies of schools provide a window to larger society. It thus offers insights into cultural lessons taught to children through policies, institutional structures and everyday interactions, as well as into schools’ entanglement in state projects, cultural processes, societal histories and conflicts, and hence into contemporary Europe.
Book Synopsis Het Nederlandse beroepsonderwijs by : Harry van Lingen
Download or read book Het Nederlandse beroepsonderwijs written by Harry van Lingen and published by Maklu. This book was released on 2012 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since 1953, the year in which the first European School was founded, publications and systematic research on this unique form of international nursery, primary and secondary education have been limited and fragmented leaving it as relatively blank spot in the international education arena. This book is the first-ever in the almost 60-year history of the European School that removes the obscurity and misconceptions that exist about it in a comprehensive manner. It describes, analyses and evaluates its position emanating from the main research question: what are the most important causes for its rise, what developments has it seen and what results has it achieved considering the studies and careers of its alumni. Furthermore, it is critical of some of its practices, makes suggestions for improvements and opens a debate about future developments. It also touches on current internationalisation efforts and structures in secondary and higher education in some European countries.
