Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A new 2024 translation of Immanuel Kant's famous "Religion within the Limits of Mere Reason", from the original German manuscript first published in 1793. The original German title is "Die Religion innerhalb der Grenzen der bloßen Vernunft". This new edition contains an afterword by the translator, a timeline of Kant's life and works, and a helpful index of Kant's key concepts and intellectual rivals. This translation is designed for readability, rendering Kant's enigmatic German into the simplest equivalent possible, and removing the academic footnotes to make this critically important historical text as accessible as possible to the modern reader. Kant's "Religion within the Limits of Mere Reason" is one of his most accessible works due to its simplicity and basic lexicon. Here he writes about "the relationship of religion to human nature". Kant strove to fix both the Natural science and Theology by keeping them both in their respective dialectal parameters. Living through the heart of the Enlightenment, Kant observed the Epistemological problems brought about by One-World Newtonian Mechanical Reductionism, and the bad counter-reactions that Protestant apologists made. Like Hegel, Kant wants to restore faith as the "guardian of the speculative mysteries".

Download or read book Kant: Religion Within the Boundaries of Mere Reason written by Immanuel Kant and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1998-11-26 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Religion within the Boundaries of Mere Reason is a key element of the system of philosophy which Kant introduced with his Critique of Pure Reason, and a work of major importance in the history of Western religious thought. It represents a great philosopher's attempt to spell out the form and content of a type of religion that would be grounded in moral reason and would meet the needs of ethical life. It includes sharply critical and boldly constructive discussions on topics not often treated by philosophers, including such traditional theological concepts as original sin and the salvation or 'justification' of a sinner, and the idea of the proper role of a church. This volume presents it and three short essays that illuminate it in new translations by Allen Wood and George di Giovanni, with an introduction by Robert Merrihew Adams that locates it in its historical and philosophical context.

Book Synopsis De la raison à la foi by : Jean-Marc Ausset
Download or read book De la raison à la foi written by Jean-Marc Ausset and published by Ditions Croix Du Salut. This book was released on 2015-09-23 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from Religion Within the Boundary of Pure Reason The position there IS A Gon, consequently there is a Summumc Bonum, in the universe, if it as a belief is to rest on pure morals, is a synthetic a priori proposition, which, although adopted singly for a prao tical behoof, extends beyond the notion duty (which notion supposes no matter of choice, only its formal (negative) laws), and consequently cannot be evolved analytically from it: coincidence with the mere Idea of a Moral Lawgiver of Mankind, is no doubt identic with the ethical con ception duty; and td this extent a proposition ordaining such coinci dence were analytic but to assume his existence, says more than is ex pressed by the bare idea of the possibility of such an object. The key to the unfolding of this matter, I can only here sketch in skeleton, with out applying it to the intricacies of the wards. Book Synopsis Volume 10: Philosophy of Religion by : Guttorm Fløistad
Download or read book Volume 10: Philosophy of Religion written by Guttorm Fløistad and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-10-31 with total page 418 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present volume is a continuation of the series Contemporary Philosophy. As with the earlier volumes in the series, the present Chronicles purport to give a survey of significant trends in contemporary philosophy. The need for such surveys has, I believe, increased rather than decreased over the years. The philosophical scene appears, for various reasons, more complex than ever before. The continuing process of specialization in most branches, the increasing contact between p- losophers from various cultures, the emergence of new schools of thought, particularly in philosophical logic and in the philosophy of language and ethics, and the increasing attention being paid to the h- tory of philosophy in discussions of contemporary problems, are the most important contributing factors. Surveys of the present kind are a valuable source of knowledge of this complexity. The surveys may therefore help to strengthen the Socratic element of modern philosophy, the intercultural dialogue or Kommunikationsgemeinschaft. So far, nine volumes have been published in this series, viz. P- losophy of Language and Philosophical Logic (Volume 1), Philosophy of Science (Volume 2), Philosophy of Action (Volume 3), Philosophy of Mind (Volume 4), African Philosophy (Volume 5), Medieval Age P- losophy (Volumes 6/1 and 6/2), Asian Philosophy (Volume 7), Philo- phy of Latin America (Volume 8), and Aesthetics and Philosophy of Art (Volume 9).
Download or read book Al-Din written by M.A. Draz and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2023-01-26 with total page 195 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1952, al-Din, by prominent Egyptian scholar Muhammad Abdullah Draz (1894–1958), has been critically acclaimed as one of the most influential Arab Muslim studies of universal 'religion' and forms of religiosity in modern times. Written as an introductory textbook for a course in the "History of Religions" at King Fuad I University in Cairo-the first of its kind offered at an Egyptian institution of higher learning-this book presents a critical overview of classical approaches to the scholarly study of religion. While ultimately adapted to an Islamic paradigm, the book is a novel attempt to construct a grand narrative about the large methodological issues of Religious Studies and the History of Religions and in relation to modernity and secularism. Translated for the first time in English by Yahya Haidar, this book demonstrates how the scholarly academic study of religion in the West, often described as 'Orientalist', came to influence and help shape a counter-discourse from one of the leading Arab Muslim scholars of his time.
