Book Synopsis Cross-Border Renewable Energy Transitions by : Philippe Hamman
Download or read book Cross-Border Renewable Energy Transitions written by Philippe Hamman and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-12-26 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the intrinsically multiscale issue of renewable energy transition from a local, national and transnational perspective, and provides insights into current developments in the Upper Rhine Region that can serve as an international model. Organised around the exploration of stakeholder issues, the volume first describes a framework for public action and modelling and then articulates a triple complementary focus from the viewpoint of law, economics and sociology. This multidisciplinary approach is anchored in the social sciences, but also explores the ways in which technological issues are increasingly debated in the implementation of the ecological transition. With a focus on the Upper Rhine Region of France, Germany and Switzerland, the contributions throughout analyse how concrete regional projects emerge, and whether they are carried out by local authorities, private energy groups, network associations or committed citizens. From this, it appears that real-world energy transition modes can be best understood as permanent transactional processes involving institutional regulations, economic levers and barriers and social interactions. This book will be of interest to advanced students and scholars focusing on renewable energy transition, stakeholder issues, environment and sustainability studies, as well as those who are interested in the methodological aspects of the social sciences, especially within the fields of sociology, law, economy, geography, political science, urbanism and planning.
Book Synopsis The mirage of shale gas by : Thomas Porcher
Download or read book The mirage of shale gas written by Thomas Porcher and published by Max Milo. This book was released on 2014-03-27 with total page 37 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: « Today, in the United States, a new well is drilled every twelve minutes, and that model is what some wish to import to Europe ». Job creation, lower gas bills, renewed competitiveness, geopolitical upheaval, energy independence... such are the arguments used by oil and gas lobby groups to influence public opinion and impose shale gas exploitation throughout Europe. Focused on the American example and oblivious of European economic and legal specificities, lobbies fling counter-truths regarding the economic benefits that their production would generate. However, what they call an energy revolution actually is a dangerous « gold rush » with a single mission, intensive drilling, to satisfy the hunger for profit of a few at the expense of the general interest. Argument after argument, Thomas Porcher challenges information largely controlled by lobby groups and proposes crucial answers in the context of the current debate on shale gas in Europe. Thomas Porcher holds a doctorate in Economics from the University of Paris Panthéon-Sorbonne. He is an Associate Professor of Commodities markets at ESG Management School and a lecturer in Economics and Energy geopolitics in the 203 Financial Markets master’s program at University Paris-Dauphine. He has presented his studies on shale gas to the Ministry for Ecology, Sustainable Development and Energy, to the European Parliament as well as to the French National Assembly and Senate. His analyses on energy issues have been quoted in several government reports.

Book Synopsis EU Soft Law in the Member States by : Mariolina Eliantonio
Download or read book EU Soft Law in the Member States written by Mariolina Eliantonio and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2021-03-25 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume analyses, for the first time in European studies, the impact that non-legally binding material (otherwise known as soft law) has on national courts and administration. The study is founded on empirical work undertaken by the European Network of Soft Law Research (SoLaR), across ten EU Member States, in competition policy, financial regulation, environmental protection and social policy. The book demonstrates that soft law is taken into consideration at the national level and it clarifies the extent to which soft law can have legal and practical effects for individuals and national authorities. The national case studies highlight the points of convergence or divergence in the way in which judges and administrators approach soft law, while reflecting on the reasons for and consequences of various national practices. A series of horizontal studies connect this research to the rich literature on new modes of governance, by revisiting traditional theories on soft law, and by reflecting on the potential of such instruments to undermine or to foster rule of law values.

This book was released on 1991-06-14 with total page 1154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The "European Yearbook" has expanded over the years in keeping with the role played by European institutions compared with national ones. It is an indispensable work of reference for anyone dealing with these institutions, which have become so numerous and varied that no-one can possibly memorise all their acronyms or functions. The "European Yearbook" provides aids for finding one's way through the labyrinth of these organisations which coordinate a variety of activities in over 20 countries. One of the aids is an 'organisation chart' at the beginning of the documentary section, giving a clear picture of the general situation. A perusal of the many contributions in the volume organisation by organisation, shows the full diversity of the activities which Europe is gradually taking over from national governments, with their consent and financial support. Written in both of the Council of Europe's official languages, English and French, the "European Yearbook" also contains a general index by subject and name which constitutes a very valuable list of articles and provides direct access to the work's subject matter, regardless of the particular organisation concerned, offering a kind of cross-section of the activities of European organisations.
