Mais à la base de ces transformations, il y a une profonde interrogation : il n’est plus question de croire à une seule vérité, et les concepts mêmes sont remis en cause. Il en est ainsi pour l’un des piliers de la science : la médecine, dont les certitudes et les valeurs sont devenues indéterminations et questionnements. Et dans le cadre de la médecine, la psychiatrie semblerait nous offrir à son tour une disponibilité particulière pour une remise en cause radicale. Parce qu’elle est caractérisée par des limites estompées, par une pathologie et une clinique essentiellement variables et diverses, par le polymorphisme. Le psychiatre peut, en quelque sorte, guider les nouvelles orientations de la pensée médicale, maintenir l’élan pour une transformation radicale, et aider à définir une médecine plus sensible à des nécessités qui dépassent la seule élimination de la souffrance et des symptômes. Une médecine moins idéalisée certes, mais peut-être davantage prête à répondre à nos questions essentielles.

La pensée intuitive permet de saisir le fait psychanalytique et l'intègre dans des rapports précis dont chaque élément est vérifié, à la fois dans le dit de l'analysant et celui de l'analyste. Il existe donc un chemin continu entre l'expérience analytique (la pratique) et la théorie qui est indispensable à la lecture des faits au moins sous la forme d'hypothèse. Il existe un rapport, étroit mais souple, entre la théorie inconsciente implicite dans l'agir de la parole de l'analyste, et la théorie commune qui s'intériorise en lui. La théorie commune est à reformuler pour tenir compte des nouveaux faits acquis et du progrès épistémologique. C'est à ce travail de lecture des faits et de formulation théorique des lois qui les organisent, que s'attachent les auteurs de cette collection, dans une pleine liberté de création. La psychanalyse est issue du travail quotidien de reconnaissance des faits et non de spéculations. Ensuite on applique et on philosophe.
