Book Synopsis Education and Training Policy Teachers Matter by : Phillip McKenzie
Download or read book Education and Training Policy Teachers Matter written by Phillip McKenzie and published by Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. This book was released on 2005-06-28 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Good teachers are the backbone of any education system. That’s why governments are constantly seeking teacher policies that will help them recruit and retain the best. Most countries are concerned with an ageing teaching workforce and attracting new recruits, coupled with the demands of more diverse student populations, higher expectations and new responsibilities. To be effective, teacher policy must address these issues. Teachers Matter provides a comprehensive, international analysis of: trends and developments in the teacher workforce in 25 countries around the world; research on attracting, developing and retaining effective teachers; innovative and successful policies and practices that countries have implemented; and teacher policy options for countries to consider. While documenting many areas of concern about teachers and teaching, the report also provides positive examples of where policies are making a difference. It spotlights countries where teachers’ social standing is high, and where there are more qualified applicants than vacant posts. Even in countries where shortages have been a concern, there are recent signs of increased interest in teaching, and policy initiatives appear to be taking effect.

Book Synopsis A Handbook for Translator Trainers by : Dorothy Kelly
Download or read book A Handbook for Translator Trainers written by Dorothy Kelly and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-04-23 with total page 191 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The community of translator trainers is growing constantly, as new courses are set up in diverse contexts throughout the world. After a brief overview of current approaches to translator training, this book offers practical guidance to sound training practices in different contexts. Given the very wide variety of backgrounds translator trainers come from, the text aims to be equally of use to language teachers new to translation, to professional translators new to teaching or training, to recent graduates in translation intending to embark on academic careers in translation studies, and to more experienced trainers wishing to reflect on their activity or to train new trainers. For that reason, no specific prior knowledge or experience of training is taken for granted. A systematic approach to curriculum and syllabus design is adopted, guiding readers from the writing of learning outcomes or objectives through to the design of teaching and learning activities, to the assessment of learning and course evaluation, all this applied throughout in detail to the field of translation. Chapters contain exercises and activities designed to promote reflection on practice and to help trainers to develop their teaching skills, as well as their own course material. These activities are suitable both for self-learners and for groups on trainer training and staff development courses.

Book Synopsis Engaging People in Sustainability by : Daniella Tilbury
Download or read book Engaging People in Sustainability written by Daniella Tilbury and published by IUCN. This book was released on 2004 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is based on the exchange of professional experiences which featured in an IUCN CEC workshop in August 2002. Practitioners from around the world shared their models of good practice and explored the challenges involved in engaging people in sustainability. The difficulties facing practitioners vary between country and context but some challenges are universal: A lack of clarity in communicating what is meant by sustainable development; An ambition to educate everyone to bring about a global citizenship; Social, organisational or institutional factors constrain change to sustainable development, yet there is an emphasis on formal education, and community educators do not receive the same support; A lack of balance in addressing the integration of environmental, social and economic dimensions leading to an interpretation that ESD is mainly about environment and conservation issues; New learning (rather than teaching) approaches are called for to promote more debate in society. Yet, few are trained or experienced in these new approaches. Practitioners need support to explore new ways of promoting learning.

Download or read book El docente como generador de su propio proceso de profesionalización written by María Juanita Maldonado Carrizales and published by Editorial Digital UNID. This book was released on 2018-01-31 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Download or read book El ABC y D de la formación docente written by Carlos Marcelo and published by Narcea Ediciones. This book was released on 2016-11-21 with total page 283 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
