En las provincias cordilleranas argentinas, surgieron grupos de autoconvocados y ambientalistas que se oponen a esta actividad, cuestionandola por los danos ambientales que ocasiona. Asi surgieron en todo el pais grandes defensores y detractores de la actividad minera, entre ellos politicos, empresarios y periodistas; y se armaron grandes debates en los medios de comunicacion. Las empresas mineras tambien tomaron cartas en el asunto, y sus representantes realizaron mucha publicidad en las ciudades en donde operan y se valieron de la responsabilidad social empresaria para poder instalarse en la sociedad y contar con el apoyo de la gente. Era tan llamativo este conflicto, que por eso fue objeto de mi investigacion. Las informaciones que circulaban eran contrapuestas, al igual que las declaraciones de los actores que intervenian en esta especie de guerra mediatica."

Book excerpt: As demand for natural resources increases due to the rise in world population and living standards, conflicts over their access and control are becoming more prevalent. This book critically assesses different approaches to and conceptualizations of resource fairness and justice and applies them to the analysis of resource conflicts. Approaches addressed include cosmopolitan liberalism, political economy and political ecology. These are applied at various scales (local, national, international) and to initiatives and instruments in public and private resource governance, such as corporate social responsibility instruments, certification schemes, international law and commodity markets. In doing so, the contributions contrast existing approaches to fairness and justice and extend them by taking into account the interplay between political scales, regions, resources, and power structures in "glocalized" resource politics. Various case studies are included concerning agriculture, agrofuels, land grabbing, water resources, mining and biodiversity. The volume adds to the academic and policy debate by bringing together a variety of disciplines and perspectives in order to advance both a research and policy agenda that puts notions of resource fairness and justice center-stage.

Spanish is the main, usually the sole official language of twenty-one countries,} and it is set fair to overtake English by the year 2000 in numbers 2 of native speakers. This vast geographical and political diversity ensures that Spanish is a good deal less unified than French, German or even English, the latter more or less internationally standardized according to either American or British norms. Until the 1960s, the criteria of internationally correct Spanish were dictated by the Real Academia Espanola, but the prestige of this institution has now sunk so low that its most solemn decrees are hardly taken seriously - witness the fate of the spelling reforms listed in the Nuevas normas de prosodia y ortograjia, which were supposed to come into force in all Spanish-speaking countries in 1959 and, nearly forty years later, are still selectively ignored by publishers and literate persons everywhere. The fact is that in Spanish 'correctness' is nowadays decided, as it is in all living languages, by the consensus of native speakers; but consensus about linguistic usage is obviously difficult to achieve between more than twenty independent, widely scattered and sometimes mutually hostile countries. Peninsular Spanish is itself in flux.
