This book was released on 2000-11-30 with total page 420 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a valuable evaluation of the propensity toward parochialism in international thought. It analyzes the implications in terms of how the "problems" of international relations, the theoretical tools constructed to deal with them, and the direction of theoretical debate often reflect the unconscious bias of the national domains in which these intellectual activities are conducted. It scans the breadth of the contemporary discipline, broadly attempting to take its pulse and assess the contours of its new diversity. Contributors include Pal Ahluwalia, Chris Brown, Molly Cochran, Robert M. A. Crawford, Roger Epp, Martin Griffiths, A. J. R. Groom, Teresa Healey, John M. Hobson, K. J. Holsti, Darryl S. L. Jarvis, Peter Mandaville, Mark Neufeld, Kim R. Nossal, Terry O'Callaghan, Jan Pettman, Tony Porter, James Richardson, Roger Spegele, and Michael Sullivan.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

This book was released on 2024-01-08 with total page 263 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book sheds light on the so-called ‘Moro Doctrine’, an Italian state security policy which has been portrayed in literature as an under-the-counter agreement made between Italy and Palestinian movement during the Cold War. The Moro Doctrine, or ‘Lodo Moro’ as it is known in Italy, aimed to protect the peninsula from Palestinian attacks by allowing terrorists to use Italian territory as a base for weapons and guerrilla fighters. Responsibility for the ‘Lodo’ was instrumentally placed on Aldo Moro, the five- time Prime Minister of Italy, after his death, and since then his name has become indelibly linked with the shame of having negotiated with Palestinian terrorists. Thanks to records collected from over twenty archives in Italy, the USA, France, Germany, Britain and Russia, concrete evidence shows that the significance of this agreement needs to be rethought. The author argues that the decision to adopt the Lodo was not solely made by Moro, but also involved key figures of the Christian Democrat and Socialist parties, various magistrates and even the President of the Republic. It illustrates how terrorism was used as an effective tool in international diplomacy to influence foreign and domestic policies. Offering a re-examination of Italian counter-terrorist policy, this book analyses how Italy responded to international terrorism during the Cold War, providing a useful read for those researching Italian and European history, Cold War studies, the history of international relations and diplomacy, and Middle-East history.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: EU enlargement - to countries in Central and Eastern Europe in 2004, the inclusion of Bulgaria and Romania in 2007, and increasing debates on Turkey’s membership - has dramatically transformed the European Union into a multi-religious space. Religious communities are not only shaping identities but are also influential factors in political discourse. This edited volume examines the activities of religious actors in the context of supranational European institutions and the ways in which they have responded to the idea of Europe at local and international levels. By bringing together scholars working in political science, history, law and sociology, this volume analyses key religious factors in contemporary EU architecture, such as the transformation of religious identities, the role of political and religious leaders, EU legislation on religion, and, the activities of religious lobbies. This book was published as a special issue of Religion, State and Society.
