Download or read book Management of Aging written by Jean-Pierre Michel and published by Karger Medical and Scientific Publishers. This book was released on 1999-01-01 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the world's major geriatric departments is housed in the Geneva University Hospital and has a 36-year-old history behind it. Some of its developments are set out in this book. Care programs such as geriatric concepts of care, community based support, convalescent beds, memory clinics, palliative medicine and care and practice of clinical ethics are discussed. Research has focussed on 15 years of comparative cross-sectional studies on aging in an urban and a rural area of Switzerland, prevalence of dementia in Geneva and Zurich, clinico-neuropathological correlation, fall prevention, hip fracture outcomes and the impact of nutrition on the recovery of hip fractures. Teaching activities include interactive pre-graduate teaching of geriatrics, patient-centered medicine, post ethics, teaching the teachers by the European Academy for Medicine of Aging. Networking by the Interfaculty Center of Gerontology, Swiss Foundation for Research on Healthy Aging and the WHO program on 'Aging and Health' are in progress. This book will be of interest to geriatricians, administrators, gerontological researchers and public health managers as it gives an insight into the setting up of a geriatric team and the implementation of geriatric programs.
Download or read book Bioethics Yearbook written by B.A. Lustig and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 663 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As noted in Volume 1, the Yearbook series alternates between a biennial volume tracing recent theological discussions on topics in bioethics and a biennial volume tracing recent regional discussions in bioethics. Volume 2 provides for the first time a comprehensive single-volume summary of recent international and regional developments on specific topics in bioethics. To give uniformity to the discussions all authors were asked to report on the following topics: new reproductive technologies, abortion, maternal-fetal conflicts, case of severely disabled newborns, consent of treatment and experimentation, confidentiality, equitable access to health care, ethical concerns raised by cost-containment measures, decisions to withhold or withdraw life-sustaining treatment, active euthanasia, the definition of death, organ donation and transplantation. The internationally respected contributors report on the following 16 areas: the United States, Canada, Latin America, the United Kingdom and Ireland, France, the Netherlands, Germany/Austria/Switzerland, Eastern Europe, Spain/Portugal/Italy/Scandinavia, India, Southeast Asia, China, Japan, Australia/New Zealand, Council of Europe/EEC. The commentators draw on three sets of resources: Statutes, legislative proposals, and regulatory changes that directly influence, or have implications for, areas of bioethical concern; Case law and court judgments that shape, either decisively or suggestively, recent legal interpretations of particular issues of areas in bioethics; Formal statements of governmentally appointed commissions, advisory bodies, and representative professional groups, as well as less formal statements and recommendations of other organisations. In addition to providing timely summaries of recent developments, the volume offers rich and useful bibliographical references to a wide array of documents, many of which would be difficult for readers to learn about, given the lack of centralized international collection of such documents. The Yearbook should be widely consulted by all bioethicists, public policy analysts, lawyers and theologians.

Download or read book Toya written by Vasco M'benga N’kutula and published by FriesenPress. This book was released on 2024-02-08 with total page 211 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Brokenness and Reconciliation by : Christian Danz
Download or read book Brokenness and Reconciliation written by Christian Danz and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2020-09-07 with total page 455 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Too often we see reality in black and white, overlooking nuances that require the discernment of tensions between the brokenness of our world and our desires for reconciliation. Yet the gap between wounding words and actions and the hope for acts of reconciliation can lead to even more violence and despair. The authors of this volume explore these tensions and the valences of ‘brokenness’ and ‘reconciliation’ in Paul Tillich’s thought. Together, they contribute to a richer understanding of the thought of the German American theologian and philosopher, his commitments, and the constructive interpretations his work can induce for us today. Think of the ruptures and efforts of dialogue among divided Christian churches, or the commitment of the social worker; reflect on how love as agape, or the courage to be, can be at the heart of this constructive work; or consider the reconciliation processes of peoples torn apart by violence, to mention a few contributions from this volume. Collectively, these contributions raise the hope of a Tillichian creative justice, a hope that can stimulate a broad audience to go beyond the superficiality and instantaneity of social media to something deeper, more enduring, and transformative.
