Book Synopsis New Organic Architecture by : David Pearson
Download or read book New Organic Architecture written by David Pearson and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 1308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New Organic Architecture is a manifesto for building in a way that is both aesthetically pleasing and kinder to the environment. It illuminates key themes of organic architects, their sources of inspiration, the roots and concepts behind the style, and the environmental challenges to be met. The organic approach to architecture has an illustrious history, from Celtic design, Art Nouveau, Arts and Crafts, to the work of Antoni Gaud and Frank Lloyd Wright. Today there is a response to a new age of information and ecology; architects are seeking to change the relationship between buildings and the natural environment. In the first part of his book, David Pearson provides a history and assessment of organic architecture. The second part comprises statements from thirty architects from around the world whose work is based on natural or curvilinear forms rather than the straight-line geometrics of modernism. Each statement is accompanied by full-color illustrations of one or several of the architects' built projects.

Book excerpt: `I waited with great anticipation to receive Jon Prosser′s book, School Culture. The wait was worth it and I wasn′t to be disappointed... This is a fine book bringing to a reader a credible and solid set of work′ - Youth and Policy `The most helpful book on genuine school improvement that I have ever read′ - LDR National College for School Leadership `Jon Prosser has put together an eclectic volume. School Culture is not isolated from out of school forces, most of the authors argue Jon Prosser and Terry Warbuton′s piece analyzing the visual representation of schools and teaching shows this in a looking-glass manner. The different chapters challenge us to think again about what we mean by ethos and atmosphere. What the volume demonstrates is just how difficult and challenging it is to define what constitutes a school′s culture′ - Journal of Education for Teaching School culture is today one of the most important themes in education and educational research. This book draws on a wide range of contemporary perspectives to provide an insight into the key issues and concepts which underpin school culture. The first part of the book is concerned with culture as an holistic concept. The second part adopts the stance that school culture is the sum of its subcultures. The contributors focus on significant groups such as teachers and students, or theme, for example sexuality, and examine in depth the nature and character of schooling.

This book was released on 1998-05-31 with total page 692 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The International Handbook of Educational Change is a state of the art collection of the most important ideas and evidence of educational change. The book brings together some of the most influential thinkers and writers on educational change. It deals with issues like educational innovation, reform, restructuring, culture-building, inspection, school-review, and change management. It asks why some people resist change and what their resistance means. It looks at how men and women, older teachers and younger teachers, experience change differently. It looks at the positive aspects of change but does not hesitate to raise uncomfortable questions about many aspects of educational change either. It looks critically and controversially at the social, economic, cultural and political forces that are driving educational change. School leaders, system administration, teacher leaders, consultants, facilitators, educational researchers, staff developers and change agents of all kinds will find this book an indispensable resource for guiding them to both classic and cutting-edge understandings of educational change, no other work provides as comprehensive coverage of the field of educational change.
Download or read book Dirección y liderazgo de los centros educativos written by Joaquín Gairín Sallán and published by Narcea Ediciones. This book was released on 2024-05-08 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Book Synopsis Distributed Leadership by : Alma Harris
Download or read book Distributed Leadership written by Alma Harris and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-03-17 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Alma Harris The ?eld of school leadership is currently preoccupied with the idea of distributed leadership. Few ideas, it seems, have provoked as much attention, debate and c- troversy. Whatever your position on distributed leadership, and you cannot fail to have one, it is irrefutable that distributed leadership has become the leadership idea of the moment. Yet, it is an idea that can be traced back as far as the mid 20s and possibly earlier. So why the interest? Part of the answer can be found in a move away from theorizing and empirical enquiry focused on the single leader. This shift has undoubtedly been fuelled by structural changes, within schools and across school systems that have resulted in - ternative models or forms of leadership practice. Evidence highlights how those - cupying formal leadership positions are increasingly recognizing the limitations of existing structural arrangements to secure organizational growth and transformation (Fullan et al. , 2007; Harris et al. , 2008; Chapman et al. , 2008). As a consequence, many heads and principals are actively restructuring, realigning and redesigning leadership practice in their school (Harris, 2008). While the terminology to describe such changes varies, the core principle is one of extending or sharing leadership practice. While scholars have long argued for the need to move beyond those at the top of organizations in order to examine leadership (Barnard, 1968; Katz and Kahn, 1966) until relatively recently, much of the school leadership literature has tended tofocusupontheheadortheprincipal.
