Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Elizabeth Stirredge's spiritual autobiography is a treasury of spiritual wisdom which paints all that which is needed to be a faithful servant of the Lord Jesus Christ and how God in His might works, transforms, and supports an ordinary soul to lead the life of extraordinary faithfulness. The text highlights Stirredge's intimate conviction as well as that of early Quakers. This translation is a welcomed venture because this is a central piece, deserving of much more attention than that which has been accorded to it until now.
Download or read book Faiblesse et force, présidence et collégialité chez Paul de Tarse written by Loïc Berge and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2015-05-12 with total page 744 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 2 Cor. 10–13, as in the entire Pauline corpus, the use of the first person plural is surprising. Paul oscillates between singular ('I') and plural ('We'), sometimes within the same sentence. While this literary feature has never been seriously explored, this study undertakes in the first part an investigation of the meanings of 'we' in ancient Greek texts through several literary genres, from Homer to the Hellenistic period. The second part, devoted to 2 Cor. 10–13, shows the neat architecture of these chapters, and the way the key theological message about weakness (ἀσθένεια) and power (δύναμις) is delivered. Also the occurrences of 'We' and 'I' throughout the text reveal a further underlying theology of authority.

Download or read book Openwork written by André Du Bouchet and published by Yale University Press. This book was released on 2014-01-01 with total page 365 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A career retrospective of poetry and prose works by one of the under-recognized giants of French literature André du Bouchet, a great innovator of twentieth-century letters, has yet to be fully recognized by a wide circle of international readers. This inviting volume sets out to remedy the oversight, introducing a selection of du Bouchet's poetry and prose to English-language readers through the brilliant translations of Paul Auster and Hoyt Rogers. Openwork showcases pieces from the author's entire trajectory, beginning with little-known pieces from the 1950s, followed by major poems from the 1960s, and concluding with works written or rewritten in the poet's later decades. Throughout his life, du Bouchet devoted himself to long walks in his beloved French countryside, jotting down entries in notebooks as he rambled. These notebooks--more than one hundred all together--have emerged as signal works in their own right, and their musings are well represented in this anthology.
Book Synopsis Rome, a City and Its Empire in Perspective: The Impact of the Roman World through Fergus Millar's Research by : Stéphane Benoist
Download or read book Rome, a City and Its Empire in Perspective: The Impact of the Roman World through Fergus Millar's Research written by Stéphane Benoist and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2012-05-25 with total page 211 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fergus Millar’s works have renewed our approach of the Roman world. He had studied the functioning of the Roman Empire in the perspective of the Emperor’s activities, from Augustus to Constantine; as well as the Republic during the last two centuries BC in order to revalue the people within the institutions; and finally the Near East from Augustus to Constantine, and then to the Muslim conquest. He uses to be engaged with the whole evidence (literary, epigraphic, papyrological, juridical and archaeological) that he examines closely with revived view-points. Distinguished and younger scholars have dealt, during a seminar, with the main aspects of Millar’s research, its reception and the reactions it has raised, and proposed surveys about current inquiries, as well as perspectives for future studies.
Download or read book Robert Antelme written by Martin Crowley and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-12-02 with total page 153 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Best known for his 1947 memoir L'Espece humaine, Robert Antelme (1917-1990) is a central figure in the history of the European response to the Nazi concentration camps. In this first study in any language to be devoted to Antelme's work, Martin Crowley reveals the author's vital yet insufficiently recognized influence on recent thought in France and elsewhere about such questions as the nature of community and the indivisibility of humanity. He explores the conclusions Antelme drew from his deportation and his involvement with the post-war French left, and provides the first detailed textual criticism of L'Espece humaine. Examining the responses to the author's writing by such figures as Blanchot, Perec, Agamben, Nancy and Derrida, Crowley demonstrates Antelme's key contribution to the development of modern European thought."

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. 4:7).
