El libro de Ospina tiene el mérito de aportar argumentos para hacerle frente a éstas dos polarizaciones. Contra la deslegitimación platónica, Ospina se coloca de principipo a fín en la gran tradición de la filosofía del arte, defiende y explica la naturaleza de su verdad, al igual que de su necesidad de apariencia para destacarse como arte. No se compromete con la estética de la belleza, pero retiene la belleza, amparándose en la tradición pragmática de lo bello en lo existencial y en lo ético, un horizonte filosófico con figuras como Aristóteles, Hegel, G.E. Moore y, mas recientemente, A.C. Danto, filósofo y crítico de arte que apuntala las tesis de Ospina que le dan aliento al libro. La idea decisiva de esta posición es la concepción del arte como asunto del pensamiento, y de éste como algo afincado en la pragmática y la valoración de la existencia. Entendido así, el pensamiento rebasa la objetividad del conocimiento y abarca lo valioso y lo significativo, en particular para el arte, lo simbólico y la metáfora. Uno de los méritos del libro, ya insinuado en lo anterior, es su aporte a la nueva educación del interesado en arte. A pesar de la erudita contribución filosófica y teórica de que hace gala su libro, el eco que se percibe de él va dirigido en primer lugar, no al conocedor, a quien seguramente ilustra e inquieta, sino al interesado en arte, al que lo ama y lo aprecia como espejo para su vida. Una arqueología de la imagen, implica considerar a la imagen desde la intermedialidad (entre-medios), los cuerpos y las miradas. Concebirla desde una crítica de la cultura en una contemporaneidad atravesada por la crisis. La pregunta ¿qué son las imágenes? que se formula desde la debilidad de cierta inocencia de la escritura, adquiere toda su dimensión desde el momento en que se confunde imagen con visualidad o imagen con medios audiovisuales, dejando por el camino todos los restos de imágenes que no son visuales. Aún más, ese debate se torna más complejo, cuando en su trasfondo está la «memoria» del holocausto (o de los holocaustos); las imágenes de la crisis política, económica y social o los miles de refugiados, en la paradigmática imagen de un niño muerto en la playa, deambulando por geografías europeas. La imagen es, en efecto, «nómada», viaja por territorios y culturas. Entonces, la inocencia de la pregunta se transforma en la imagen frágil de los que no tienen imagen. «La propuesta de Víctor Silva Echeto, es una de las mejor articuladas que conozco para pensar posibles alternativas a la situación de impasse a que parece abocarnos el mundo contemporáneo.» JENARO TALENS (escritor).

That process took longer than anticipated and there were additional unfortunate delays due to factors beyond the editors’s control.
