Book Synopsis Affaires de Famille by : Marie-Claire Barnet
Download or read book Affaires de Famille written by Marie-Claire Barnet and published by Rodopi. This book was released on 2007 with total page 349 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What are families like in contemporary France? And what begins to emerge when we consider them from the point of view of recent theoretical perspectives: (faulty) cohesion, (fake) coherence, (carefully planned or subversive) deconstruction, loss (of love, confidence or credibility), or, even (utter) chaos and (alarming) confusion? Which media revamp old stereotypes, generate alternative reinterpretations, and imply more ambiguous answers? ...]Uneasy contradictions and ambiguities emerge in this bilingual collection of approaches and genre studies. The family plot seems to thicken as family ties appear to loosen. Has the family' been lost from sight, or is it being reinvented in our collective imaginary? This book proposes a new series of perspectives and questions on an old and familiar' topic, exploring the state and status of the family in contemporary literature, culture, critical and psychoanalytic theory and sociology.

Book Synopsis Rulers and Ruling Families in Early Medieval Europe by : Janet L. Nelson
Download or read book Rulers and Ruling Families in Early Medieval Europe written by Janet L. Nelson and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-07-18 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1999, the ideas and practices involved in early medieval royal family politics are the central theme of this collection of papers by Janet L. Nelson. She first examines King Alfred of Wessex (871-99) in the context of Anglo-Saxon conditions and in comparison with his Carolingian contemporaries. When tension and conflict within the royal family are highlighted, she argues that Alfred’s talents and political thought emerge the more impressively. A second group of papers deals with the reign of Charles the Bald (840-77): his patronage of learning and his interest in Spanish martyrs are set in political context, while contemporary historiography is considered as a form of counsel and critique. The third section reflects Nelson’s growing interest in the political importance and gendered roles of royal women. Consecration rites are analysed as ritual expressions and factors in the shaping of the queenship, while two final papers also examine the making and unmaking of Frankish kings and princes.

Book Synopsis Une famille heureuse by : Elizabeth Crane
Download or read book Une famille heureuse written by Elizabeth Crane and published by 10/18. This book was released on 2014 with total page 357 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Encyclopedia of French Film Directors by : Philippe Rège
Download or read book Encyclopedia of French Film Directors written by Philippe Rège and published by Scarecrow Press. This book was released on 2009-12-11 with total page 1486 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cinema has been long associated with France, dating back to 1895, when Louis and Auguste Lumi_re screened their works, the first public viewing of films anywhere. Early silent pioneers Georges MZli_s, Alice Guy BlachZ and others followed in the footsteps of the Lumi_re brothers and the tradition of important filmmaking continued throughout the 20th century and beyond. In Encyclopedia of French Film Directors, Philippe Rège identifies every French director who has made at least one feature film since 1895. From undisputed masters to obscure one-timers, nearly 3,000 directors are cited here, including at least 200 filmmakers not mentioned in similar books published in France. Each director's entry contains a brief biographical summary, including dates and places of birth and death; information on the individual's education and professional training; and other pertinent details, such as real names (when the filmmaker uses a pseudonym). The entries also provide complete filmographies, including credits for feature films, shorts, documentaries, and television work. Some of the most important names in the history of film can be found in this encyclopedia, from masters of the Golden Age_Jean Renoir and RenZ Clair_to French New Wave artists such as Fran_ois Truffaut and Jean-Luc Godard.

Download or read book Patrice Leconte written by Lisa Downing and published by Manchester University Press. This book was released on 2019-01-25 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lisa Downing's comprehensive study of the films of Patrice Leconte traces lines of continuity and revision through a body of apparently disparate films whose "messages" often appear both contradictory and controversial. Pursuing a close reading of the recurrent themes, styles, intertexts and techniques which structure Leconte's filmmaking, Downing re-evaluates Leconte's status as an enigmatic artist offering complex and paradoxical commentary on contemporary questions of sexuality, ethics and identity. This book is the first full-length critical work in English on Leconte's cinema. It provides essential reading for both enthusiasts of French cinema and for those fascinated by the relationship between popular culture and theory.
