Book Synopsis Fathers and Mothers: Dilemmas of the Work-Life Balance by : Margret Fine-Davis
Download or read book Fathers and Mothers: Dilemmas of the Work-Life Balance written by Margret Fine-Davis and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-04-11 with total page 371 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At the risk of sounding frivolous, there is a good case to be made for the argument that women constitute the revolutionary force behind contemporary social and economic transformation. It is in large part the changing role of women that explains the new household structure, our altered demographic behaviour, the growth of the service economy and, as a consequence, the new dilemmas that the advanced societies face. Most European countries have failed to adapt adequately to the novel challenges and the result is an increasingly serious disequilibrium. Women explicitly desire economic independence and the societal collective, too, needs to maximise female employment. And yet, this runs up against severe incompatibility problems that then result in very low birth rates. Our aging societies need more kids, yet fertility levels are often only half of what citizens define as their desired number of children. No matter what happens in the next decade, we are doomed to have exceedingly small cohorts that, in turn, must shoulder the massive burden of supporting a retired baby-boom generation. Hence it is tantamount that tomorrow’s adults be maximally productive and, yet, the typical EU member state invests very little in its children and families.

Book Synopsis Boundaryless Careers and Occupational Wellbeing by : M. Cortini
Download or read book Boundaryless Careers and Occupational Wellbeing written by M. Cortini and published by Springer. This book was released on 2010-12-14 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The relationship between the so called boundaryless careers and the occupational wellbeing is a fascinating issue. The themes of boundaryless and protean careers are noteworthy if we consider the challenges posed by a transition to more temporary employment arrangements from an industrial to a knowledge-based economy we are facing today. The book is enriched by empirical data analysis and case studies, which on one hand allow an in-depth view of the relation between new careers and wellbeing for specialists and, on the other one, become a fertile benchmark for professionals to look at. The novelty is represented by the effort of giving such construct an interdisciplinary approach, moving from law to organizational psychology, to economy, and to occupational health.

Book Synopsis How Fascism Ruled Women by : Victoria de Grazia
Download or read book How Fascism Ruled Women written by Victoria de Grazia and published by Univ of California Press. This book was released on 1992-03-06 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Italy has been made; now we need to make the Italians," goes a familiar Italian saying. Mussolini was the first head of state to include women in this mandate. How the fascist dictatorship defined the place of women in modern Italy and how women experienced the Duce's rule are the subjects of Victoria de Grazia's new work. De Grazia draws on an array of sources—memoirs and novels, the images, songs, and events of mass culture, as well as government statistics and archival reports. She offers a broad yet detailed characterization of Italian women's ambiguous and ambivalent experience of a regime that promised modernity, yet denied women emancipation. Always attentive to the great diversity among women and careful to distinguish fascist rhetoric from the practices that really shaped daily existence, the author moves with ease from the public discourse about femininity to the images of women in propaganda and commercial culture. She analyzes fascist attempts to organize women and the ways in which Mussolini's intentions were received by women as social actors. The first study of women's experience under Italian fascism, this is also a history of the making of contemporary Italian society.

Download or read book UNA FIDANZATA SU MISURA written by Carla Tommasone and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2015-09-16 with total page 604 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
