Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Book Synopsis Catholic Mediations in Southern Europe by : Xabier Itçaina
Download or read book Catholic Mediations in Southern Europe written by Xabier Itçaina and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-11-13 with total page 430 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Investigating the role played by religious actors in sociopolitical issues as a manifestation of the invisible politics of religion, this book concentrates on the social economy, support to migrants, the fight against social exclusion and pacifist campaigns, where religious actors have played discreet but structuring roles. In the European context, politico-religious matters have been reduced in two ways: first, a reduction of identity with religion being transformed into a heritage in the form of a minimal sense of belonging; and second, the media focus on the most fundamentalist currents within all religions. This book responds by proposing an alternative perspective with a focus on Southern European Catholicism and a comparison between Italian, Spanish and French subnational territories. In a period of polarized relations between religion and politics, there is a Catholic action repertoire which avoids this binary confrontation and which, in contrast, is characterized by its mediating dimension. The Catholic mediation repertoire receives little publicity and is expressed in a discreet but structuring way to address different public problems. An important contribution to the literature, this book will interest scholars and upper-level students working on religion and politics, mediation and peace studies, local policy making and comparative approaches to Southern European society and politics.
Book Synopsis Religious Actors in the Public Sphere by : Jeff Haynes
Download or read book Religious Actors in the Public Sphere written by Jeff Haynes and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-07-03 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book seeks to argue that religious actors play a crucial role in the complex processes of entering or re-entering the public spheres of state, political, and civil society. Seeking to ameliorate the analytical lacuna and concentrating on both the meso and micro levels of religious public involvement, the contributors explain how representatives from religious and political institutions act and interact in a variety of ways for various purposes. Analysing empirical examples from both Europe and beyond, and including a variety of religions, including multi-faith platforms, the volume examines selected religious actors’ objectives, means and strategies and effects in order to address the following questions: • What are selected religious actors’ public and/or political activities and objectives? • In what ways and with what results do selected religious actors operate in various public spheres? • What are the consequences of religious actors’ political involvement, and which factors condition the degree to which they are successful? Whilst focusing mainly on Europe, the book also utilizes examples from Egypt, Turkey and the USA to provide a valuable and unique comparative focus. The contributors demonstrate that various religious actors, whether functioning as interest groups or social movements, and almost irrespective of the religious tradition to which they belong and the culture from which they emanate, do not necessarily differ markedly in terms of strategies. This important study will be of great interest to all scholars of International Politics, Religion, and Public Policy.

Download or read book Culture et foi dans la théologie africaine written by Marco Moerschbacher and published by KARTHALA Editions. This book was released on 2014 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Contemplation and Incarnation by : Christophe F. Potworowski
Download or read book Contemplation and Incarnation written by Christophe F. Potworowski and published by McGill-Queen's Press - MQUP. This book was released on 2001-11-12 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Relying on both Chenu's previously unpublished materials and his many publications, Christophe Potworowski examines the role of faith and contemplation in the Dominican life and in theology as well as considering the historical and social dimensions of the human situation in terms of individual and ecclesial existence. He discusses the prophetic role of the theologian and some of the problems this involves. Potworowski raises the question of how incarnation as an overall structure is related to the particularities of Christology and provides insights into the development of Catholic theology in the crucial period leading to Vatican II. The accompanying bibliography of Chenu's complete writings, unavailable elsewhere, is a valuable instrument of theological research.
