Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Book Synopsis CRITIQUE DE LA RAISON ÉCONOMIQUE by : Fouad Nohra

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis For a New Critique of Political Economy by : Bernard Stiegler
Download or read book For a New Critique of Political Economy written by Bernard Stiegler and published by Polity. This book was released on 2010-11 with total page 161 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The catastrophic economic, social and political crisis of our time calls for a new and original critique of political economy Ð a rethinking of Marx’s project in the very different conditions of twenty-first century capitalism. Stiegler argues that today the proletarian must be reconceptualized as the economic agent whose knowledge and memory are confiscated by machines. This new sense of the term ‘proletarian’ is best understood by reference to Plato’s critique of exteriorized memory. By bringing together Plato and Marx, Stiegler can show how a generalized proletarianization now encompasses not only the muscular system, as Marx saw it, but also the nervous system of the so-called creative workers in the information industries. The proletarians of the former are deprived of their practical know-how, whereas the latter are shorn of their theoretical practice, and both suffer from a confiscation of the very possibility of a genuine art of living. But the mechanisms at work in this new and accentuated form of proletarianization are the very mechanisms that may spur a reversal of the process. Such a reversal would imply a crucial distinction between one’s life work, originating in otium (leisure devoted to the techniques of the self), and the job, consisting in a negotium (the negotiation and calculation, increasingly restricted to short-term expectations), leading to the necessity of a new conception of economic value. This short text offers an excellent introduction to Stiegler’s work while at the same time representing a political call to arms in the face of a deepening economic and social crisis.
Book Synopsis Rationalité économique, rationalité sociale by : Hmaid Ben Aziza
Download or read book Rationalité économique, rationalité sociale written by Hmaid Ben Aziza and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: NOUS NOUS SOMMES INTERESSE AU STATUT ET AU ROLE EN ECONOMIQUE DU CONCEPT DE RATIONALITE. CELUI-CI S'EST REVELE PORTEUR DE TROIS SENS RADICALEMENT DIFFERENTS. EN PREMIER LIEU, LA RATIONALITE EST PENSEE COMME UNE DONNEE DE LA NATURE. LA BONNE ECONOMIE FAIT LA BONNE SOCIETE. MAIS IL NOUS A SEMBLE QUE CETTE RATIONALITE IGNORE L'HISTOIRE ET LA LUTTE DES HOMMES POUR LE PARTAGE DES RICHESSES. C'EST CE QUE S'EST PROPOSE DE MONTRER, EN SECOND LIEU, LA RATIONALITE DE LA VALEUR SOUCIEUSE SURTOUT DE L'HOMOGENEISATION DE L'ESPACE ECONOMIQUE ET DE LA MESURE. CONTRE CETTE ORIENTATION, LA RATIONALITE MATHEMATIQUE S'EST REFUSEE A S'ENGAGER DANS UNE QUETE DE L'ORIGINE POUR S'INTERESSER UNIQUEMENT AUX ECHANGES SUR UN MARCHE. MAIS QU'ELLE SOIT NATURELLE, HISTORIQUE OU MATHEMATIQUE, LES TROIS RATIONALITES FURENT CONFRONTEES A LA MEME DIFFICULTE : RECONCILIER LA LOGIQUE ECONOMIQUE AVEC LA LOGIQUE SOCIALE, L'EFFICACITE AVEC L'EQUITE
Book Synopsis Critique de la raison économiste by : André Lacroix
Download or read book Critique de la raison économiste written by André Lacroix and published by Liber (Editions). This book was released on 2009 with total page 181 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. (A. L.)

Book Synopsis Stiegler and Technics by : Christina Howells
Download or read book Stiegler and Technics written by Christina Howells and published by Edinburgh University Press. This book was released on 2013-09-16 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These 17 essays covers all aspects of Bernard Stiegler's work, from poststructuralism, anthropology and psychoanalysis to his work on the politics of memory, 'libidinal economy', technoscience and aesthetics, keeping a focus on his key theory of technics throughout. Stiegler brings together key concepts from Plato, Freud, Derrida and Simondon to argue that the human is 'invented' through technics rather than a product of purely biological evolution. Stiegler is a thinker at the forefront of our contemporary concerns with consumerism, technology, inter-generational division, political apathy and economic crisis. His ambitious project is to go beyond these sources of social distress to uncover and examine precisely 'what makes life worth living'. Contributors include: Stephen Barker, University of California Irvine and translator of Steigler; Richard Beardsworth, American University of Paris and translator of Stiegler; Miguel de Beistegui; University of Warwick; Marc Crepon, Ecole normale superieure and co-founder of Stiegler's think tank, Ars Industrialis and Daniel Ross, co-director of 'The Ister', the award-winning film on Heidegger, and translator of Stiegler.
Book Synopsis Economics as Rhetoric by : Anne Isla
Download or read book Economics as Rhetoric written by Anne Isla and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-07-26 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bernard Maris was killed in Paris on January 7, 2015, during the terrorist attack against the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo. He remains one of the most original intellectuals of contemporary France, but despite being a uniquely original heterodox thinker, his international reputation has been compromised by the fact that his writings are inaccessible to non-French speakers. This book remedies that. By providing an overview of Bernard Maris’ life and intellectual trajectory as well as an English translation of an anthology of his most relevant writings, this volume provides the international audience – for the first time ever – the chance to know and understand the contribution of this major heterodox economist. An outstanding and atypical figure in economic thought and a virulent critic of mainstream dominant economics, he was also an all-round actor and thinker of his time. Through rigorous reasoning, he questioned the notion of well-being, which, he argued, is too often conflated with having more. Enslavement by work, or the endless destructive accumulation of natural wealth, is also inherent to the capitalist system. Probably his most original contribution is his epistemological reflection on the very nature of economics and his appraisal of this discipline as a form of rhetoric. This book will be of great interest to readers in heterodox economics, economic methodology, epistemology, and French literature and culture more broadly.

Book Synopsis The Sacred Economy of Ancient Israel by : Roland Boer
Download or read book The Sacred Economy of Ancient Israel written by Roland Boer and published by Westminster John Knox Press. This book was released on 2015-04-20 with total page 570 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Sacred Economy of Ancient Israel offers a new reconstruction of the economic context of the Bible and of ancient Israel. It argues that the key to ancient economies is with those who worked on the land rather than in intermittent and relatively weak kingdoms and empires. Drawing on sophisticated economic theory (especially the Régulation School) and textual and archaeological resources, Roland Boer makes it clear that economic “crisis†was the norm and that economics is always socially determined. He examines three economic layers: the building blocks (five institutional forms), periods of relative stability (three regimes), and the overarching mode of production. Ultimately, the most resilient of all the regimes was subsistence survival, for which the regular collapse of kingdoms and empires was a blessing rather than a curse. Students will come away with a clear understanding of the dynamics of the economy of ancient Israel. Boer's volume should become a new benchmark for future studies.
Book Synopsis European and Chinese Sociologies by :
Download or read book European and Chinese Sociologies written by and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2011-11-11 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sociology is subject to a process of internationalisation. The rapid development of China has provided the ‘China experience’ and shown the emergence of a new sociology. In this book a dialogue between European and Chinese sociologists is opening up new horizons for Western thought in a context of economic and cultural globalisation. The objective is to embark on a process of epistemological reconfiguration, deconstructing reality on the basis of dividing up the world. This book deals with some fundamental sociological issues: modernities and globalisation, class and society, state and democracy, economic change and inequalities in Europe and in China. In the wake of the de-colonial critique of post-colonial studies, the aim of this book is to examine the question of the de-westernisation of knowledge in sociology.
