Book excerpt: La política exterior puede entenderse como una herramienta que tiene el Estado para proyectar y alcanzar sus objetivos e intereses en la arena internacional. En este sentido, es un tema que resulta un tema bastante amplio. Sobretodo si se toma en cuenta la multiplicidad de elementos que conforman a la misma. Así, la política exterior es un área que bien permite la utilización de infinidad de recursos que además de constituir el camino sobre el cual, él o los dirigentes de un país habrán de basar las relaciones con el exterior, permite formar un rasgo característico en su periodo, ya sea afín a su personalidad o bien coherente a los objetivos que dicho personaje pretende alcanzar. Haciendo referencia a los elementos que constituyen la base sobre la cual algunos países sientan su política exterior, es importante señalar, que esta investigación hace hincapié en las doctrinas. En este sentido, es importante comentar que el ejemplo más claro y conocido dentro de la comunidad internacional en la conformación y continuidad de doctrinas en materia de política exterior es el caso de Estados Unidos de Norteamérica, quien se ha caracterizado por hacer uso de estos elementos con el fin de poseer un política exterior estructurada con objetivos y metas definidas, por lo tanto EE. UU. no ha ocultado sus acciones en cuanto a política exterior se refiere, luego que éstas han ido de la mano con las doctrinas que varios de sus presidentes han instituido. De esta forma, en el primer capítulo se presentan varios significados del término doctrina, así como algunas fuentes que considero tienen gran influencia en la concepción de las mismas. Siguiendo con la línea de investigación, en el segundo capítulo se presenta una revisión teórica de las doctrinas política exterior contemporáneas, desde el periodo de 1945 hasta la fecha. Finalmente en el último capítulo, se resalta la importancia de las doctrinas como base de una política exterior sólida. Palabras claves: doctrinas, poderío, consolida.
