Book excerpt: For the majority of scholars, the Animal Apocalypse is a militant text, a piece of pro-Maccabean propaganda. This text, however, develops theological reflections that are distinctly different from a justification of an armed struggle. Its themes are even incompatible with the Maccabean movement. It is impossible to condemn the Second Temple and, at the same time, mobilise people for a fight in order to purify that very Temple. After dealing with text-critical issues, this work challenges the thesis that the text is military propaganda through the use of narrative and historical approaches. The analyses, besides proposing a new way of a studying an apocalypse, spell out the peculiarity and the significance of the theology of the Animal Apocalypse in connection with the biblical history of Israel and the theology of the Qumran community.

Book excerpt: One need not hear the words of a prophet to know that we stand at the brink of explosive global change unparalleled in the history of the the world. But if we are given the words of a prophet and fail to pay heed, such change can now only lead to the final self-destructive act in the human tragedy. This book delivers to humanity a message, commissioned by no less than the universal and unlimited Source of all knowledge, wisdom, and vision, critical to the future survival of our world. Like a topographical map that from a "bird's-eye view" indicates to us the path of least resistance, the Source points the way beyond war and violence, greed, and fear and toward a higher transcendental sanity to match the needs of the critical times in which we live - The Way of One. Given the ever-increasing speed at which we are advancing toward our final destiny, we can ill-afford to defy or ignore the immortal and dramatic vision of truth that is contained within these pages.

Nations are at odds with populism and globalism. Political leaders and dictators vie for power and influence. Looking back, you wonder “how did we get here?” Yet, these events are only signposts to the real future of mankind…the prophetic end of days. Globalism and Israel remain the two important factors to understanding key biblical prophecies. Signals abound that this generation is on the edge of experiencing a transition into the Tribulation. There may be no more dramatic proof that this sudden change is about to happen than what has resulted from the election of Donald J. Trump as president of the United States. In addition to being staunchly anti-globalism, Trump is stridently pro-Israel; moving the American Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem is proof. Now discover: Why Israel is such an important target for SatanHow America is part of the biblical propheciesWhich country is Babylon the Great – and why it will be destroyed Follow prophecy expert Terry James as he shares a collection of pivotal essays from 2015 to 2017 that reveal and highlight the prophetic clues that have brought us to this point in the countdown to a coming judgment. It all comes down to a single question — are you prepared for what is to come?

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Apocalypse, translated literally from Greek, is a disclosure of knowledge, hidden from humanity in an era dominated by falsehood and misconception, i.e., a lifting of the veil or revelation, although this sense did not enter English until the 14th century. In religious contexts it is usually a disclosure of something hidden. In the Revelation of John, the last book of the New Testament, the revelation which John receives is that of the ultimate victory of good over evil and the end of the present age, and that is the primary meaning of the term, one that dates to 1175. Today, it is commonly (and erroneously) used in reference to any prophetic End Time scenario or to the end of the world in general. The key to the cryptic message in the book of Revelation is in the Metaphysics of Truth -- THE TRUTH IS ALWAYS TRYING TO REVEAL ITSELF TO US. The Apocalypse Now Series is a new perspective on Revelation's prophecy and reading the first volume is paramount to understanding this new perspective. Volume 3 of the series: The Christ Principle Part I, helps us to see Jesus Christ as a man who discovered the hidden potentials that exist in every human being. Once we understand Jesus Christ as a man who was dedicated to an unknown purpose and destiny because of the FAITH in his mother's testaments, we will begin to unlock the secrets to his ministry, and expose the shortsighted conceptions of modern-day Christianity. Can we unite many religious teachings on the fundamentals of Christ's life and testament? Learn how the teachings of Christianity have become the dogmatic rhetoric of our misconceptions. Discover the mysteries to Revelation's prophecy as the secrets continue to unfold in Volume 3 of the Apocalypse Now Series. Where did we come from? What is our purpose? What is our destiny? Read each of the 5 volumes of the Apocalypse Now series for an unprecedented solution to the most fundamental and important questions to our human existence.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This wide-ranging exploration of the apocalypse in Western culture seeks to understand how we have come to be so preoccupied with spectacular visions of our own annihilation—offering abundant examples of the changing nature of our imagined destruction, and predisposing readers to discover many more all around them. The Apocalypse Is Everywhere: A Popular History of America's Favorite Nightmare explores why apocalyptic thinking exists, how it has been manifested in Western culture through the ages, and how it has woven itself so thoroughly into our popular culture today. Beginning with contemporary apocalyptic expressions, the book demonstrates how surprisingly widespread they are. It then discusses how we inherited them and where they arose. Author Annie Rehill surveys the ancient belief systems from which Christianity evolved, including ancient Judaism and other faiths. She explores the vision outlined in the Book of Revelation and traces the apocalyptic thread through the Middle Ages, across the Reformation and Enlightenment, and to the Americas. Finally, to prove that the Apocalypse is indeed everywhere, Rehill returns to the present to consider the idea of apocalypse as it occurs in movies, books, comics and graphic novels, games, music, and art, as well asin televangelism and even presidential speeches. Her fascinating scholarship will surely have readers looking about them with new eyes.

Book excerpt: This collection of writings by the author of Sons and Lovers presents his thoughts on religion, art, psychology and politics in a newly restored text. Though D. H. Lawrence was one of the great writers of the twentieth century, his works were severely corrupted by the stringent house-styling of printers and the intrusive editing of timid publishers. A team of scholars at Cambridge University Press has worked for more than thirty years to restore the definitive texts of D. H. Lawrence in The Cambridge Editions. Written while he was dying, Apocalypse is Lawrence’s final book. In it, he presents both a radical criticism of our civilization and a statement of unwavering belief in man’s power to create “a new heaven and a new earth.” This volume also includes Lawrence’s review of Book of Revelationby John Orman, and his Introduction to The Dragon of the Apocalypseby Frederick Carter. The Appendixes also present previously unpublished material on Revelation.

The key to the cryptic message in the book of Revelation is in the Metaphysics of Truth -- THE TRUTH IS ALWAYS TRYING TO REVEAL ITSELF TO US. Once we understand our world as a reflection of the delicate metaphysical balance between Truth's incessant Will to be made manifest and the errant choices of human will, we will see the book of Revelation for what it really is - an unveiling of Truth through the harsh experiences that enlighten us. In the final volume of the Apocalypse Now series, we examine Revelation's Sixth seal. Revelation's Sixth seal marks the day in humanity's future when the delicate balance between Truth and belief will become askew on a COLOSSAL scale. The event will be significant enough to inspire everyone to change their priorities. Just as a near brush with death inspired many towards understanding Truth and the internal nature of our being, so too would humanity be inclined by a world-changing catastrophe. Not a single person can tell us WHEN it will occur, but the event can be demonstrated as Revelation's looming harbinger or warning event. It is a prelude to doom, deception and long-awaited redemption for those who have departed. It earmarks the swift escalation towards the final battle between Truth and our perceptions of it. Discover the mysteries of Revelation's prophecy as the secrets unfold in Volume 5 of the Apocalypse Now Series.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Examines contemporary apocalyptic beliefs and their origins From religious tomes to current folk prophesies, recorded history reveals a plethora of narratives predicting or showcasing the end of the world. The incident at Waco, the subway bombing by the Japanese cult Aum Supreme Truth, and the tragedy at Jonestown are just a few examples of such apocalyptic scenarios. And these are not isolated incidents; millions of Americans today believe the end of the world is inevitable, either by a divinely ordained plan, nuclear catastrophe, extraterrestrial invasion, or gradual environmental decay. Examining the doomsday scenarios and apocalyptic predictions of visionaries, televangelists, survivalists, and various other endtimes enthusiasts, as well as popular culture, film, music, fashion, and humor, Daniel Wojcik sheds new light on America's fascination with worldly destruction and transformation. He explores the origins of contemporary apocalyptic beliefs and compares religious and secular apocalyptic speculation, showing us the routes our belief systems have traveled over the centuries to arrive at the dawn of a new millennium. Included in his sweeping examination are premillennial prophecy traditions, prophecies associated with visions of the Virgin Mary, secular ideas about nuclear apocalypse, the transformation of apocalyptic prophecy in the post-Cold War era, and emerging apocalyptic ideas associated with UFOs and extraterrestrials. Timely, yet of lasting importance, The End of the World as We Know It is a comprehensive cultural and historical portrait of an age-old phenomenon and a fascinating guide to contemporary apocalyptic fever.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Apocalypse is D. H. Lawrence's last book, written during the winter of 1929-30 when he was dying. It is a radical criticism of our civilisation and a statement of Lawrence's unwavering belief in man's power to create 'a new heaven and a new earth'. Ranging over the entire system of his thought on God and man, on religion, art, psychology and politics, this book is Lawrence's final attempt to convey his vision of man and the universe. Apocalypse was published after Lawrence's death, and in a highly inaccurate text. This edition is the first to reproduce accurately Lawrence's final corrected text on the basis of a thorough examination of the surviving manuscript and typescript. In the introduction the editor has discussed the writing of Apocalypse and its place in Lawrence's works, its publication and reception, and the significance of Lawrence's other writings on the Book of Revelation.

Inspiring in the fullest personal, political, and religious senses of the term." —Kathryn Tanner University of Chicago Divinity School "Catherine Keller is a poet among theologians. Her writing attains imaginative heights and depths that expose the flatly prosaic character of most theological work. One finds oneself lingering over sentences, images and tropes, hearing them resonate with connections and insights." —Peter Hodgson Journal of the American Academy of Religion

Book excerpt: Joyful Apocalypse? Are you serious? I thought the Apocalypse was about terror and sorrow! Come and explore the true messages of joy that John intended. Truth be known, I would predict that most people would not associate “joyful” and “apocalypse” in the same context as suggested in the title of this book. However, the truth of the Book of Revelation is that it is a message of joy, hope, healing, and peace. Generally we associate Apocalypse with war, famine, pestilence, doom, gloom, and every other scary thing we can imagine. John's purpose was not to scare us—rather, he wrote to inspire and motivate us to goodness. He was privileged to receive a true revelation from God and to write it for our spiritual growth. Interestingly, the word apocalypse means to unveil, to reveal, and to uncover. We find that the themes of joy and hope are revealed and are woven throughout the Revelation and that God has unveiled His message and truly desires to reveal to us the path He would have us walk to return to live with Him someday. The true message of John's vision is that God lives and that He loves us and that good will triumph over evil in this world.
