Die Bestürzung über die Auswirkungen solcher Verhaltensweisen hängt sicherlich mit den mannigfaltigen Erscheinungsformen zusammen. Diese reichen von körperlichen Angriffen, in ihrer brutalsten Form werden, Lehrern und Mitschülern getötet, bis hin zur Zerstörung fremden Eigentums oder Formen der Verleumdung und Diskriminierung. Neben dem Elternhaus hat die Schule eine wichtige Erziehungsaufgabe. Der Lehrer hat die Aufgabe, Kindern einen konfliktfreien Umgang mit einander zu ermöglichen und beizubringen, wie Meinungsunterschiede gewaltfrei gelöst werden können. Auch bei der Konfrontation mit Gewalt müssen Kinder lernen angemessen, verbal darauf zu reagieren. In der vorliegenden werden verschiedene Formen von Gewalt werden erläutert und synonym gebrauchte Begriffe erklärt und auf ihre Unterschiede hin untersucht.Im dritten Kapitel werden geschlechtsspezifische Unterschiede, Gemeinsamkeiten dargestellt und auf Besonderheiten im Gewaltverhalten Bezug genommen. Das vierte Kapitel untersucht die unterschiedlichen Erscheinungsformen von Gewalt bei Kindern, wobei auch auf die Täter- und Opferrolle eingegangen wird. Gewaltformen in der Schule werden, mit Hilfe aktueller Daten, in unmittelbaren Zusammenhang mit der Schulform, Schul- und Klassengröße dargestellt. Im fünften Kapitel w daraufhin folgt im sechsten Kapitel eine Betrachtung unterschiedlicher Gewaltmotive und Risikofaktorenerden Gewalttheorien, mit Hilfe unterschiedlicher theoretischer Erklärungsansätze dargestellt und. Schwerpunkt dabei, ist der veränderte Medienkonsum, innerhalb der kindlichen Erfahrungswelt. Kapitel sieben gibt Argumente für eine frühe Gewaltprävention und untermauert diese, mit den rechtlichen Grundlagen. Kapitel acht und neun bieten konkrete Lösungsmöglichkeiten anhand von drei Gewaltpräventionsprogrammen für Schüler, die sich schon mehrfach bewährt haben, des weiteren werden zwei Lehrerhilfsprogramme vorgestellt. Das zehnte Kapitel enthält Praxisanregungen für den Unterricht und die Schule.

Rita Maran examines the Mission Civilisatrice ideology that justified the routine use of torture during that war and points out that human rights violations traceable to ideology occur irrespective of a state's political system or tradition of rights. The book contrasts the routinization of torture with the contemporaneous global development of norms to assure human rights and abolish torture. Maran concludes that reliance on a state's avowedly benevolent traditions of rights is not necessarily sufficient to protect individuals against state-directed violence, and that international law on human rights can provide significant protection. The book begins with a brief history of torture in France up to the French-Algerian War. Torture, international human rights law, and civilizing mission ideology are then described and defined. The major portion of the book is devoted to interpretation of the discourse of exemplary people from three sectors of French society--government, the military, and the intellectuals--to demonstrate that reliance on the civilizing mission ideology rationalized the use of torture. Torture is a source of valuable and stimulating ideas for political scientists, historians, lawyers, social psychologists, journalists, ethicists, scholars of colonialism and colonial discourse, and all concerned with human rights as part of international discourse.
