Diese Fragen müssen zunächst sehr allgemein beantworten werden, um dann Gegenstand der Untersuchung Thailands zu werden. Warum beschäftigt sich diese Arbeit nicht mit einem westlichen, der eigenen Kultur nahen Land, sondern mit einer fremden, traditionell orientierten Kultur? Eine Frage, die sich wie zwanghaft zu stellen scheint, sich bei genauerer Überlegung jedoch selbst beantwortet. So hoffe ich ja gerade durch Betrachtung einer fremden Kultur, wichtige Erkenntnisse für das Verständnis der eigenen Kultur zu erhalten.
