It is reassuring to know that in a world of people who feel as if they are without hope that there is a means to determine how to enter into a relationship with God and to live a meaningful life and expect a heavenly future. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stuart Robinson was a prominent Presbyterian newspaper editor who took upon himself the dangerous task of distinguishing between the spiritual world and within a border state "city of conflict" during the Civil War. Presently, historians tend to depict religion during the American Civil War as domesticated under sectional nationalism -- where theologizing was directed at justifying the war in order to forge either a northern or southern Zion. Graham argues that such one-sided depictions do not sufficiently account for either the existence of a border state phenomenon during the civil war or the kind of theologizing that was being propagated from out of the border states against the domestication of religion to sectional politics. In A Kingdom Not of This World: Stuart Robinson's Struggle to Distinguish the Sacred from the Secular During the Civil War Preston D. Graham, Jr. presents a case study of a rather sizeable movement among border state Presbyterians, with special attention given to their most celebrated and influential leader, the Dr. Rev. Stuart Robinson of Louisville, Kentucky. Given the significance of Robinson's theologizing relative to the American doctrine of the separation of church and state, several primary resources are included in a reader portion of the appendix.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pitcairn Island is arguably the most isolated inhabited spot on Earth. Yet despite tricky ocean currents, often lethal surf and sudden gales, the island's standing as the home of the descendants of Fletcher Christian and his mutineer cohorts from H.M.S. Bounty has drawn thousands of ships to its shores. This maritime history of the island chronicles every ship that has called at Pitcairn from the time of the arrival of the mutineers in 1790 to December 2010. The ship's log format lists the date of each call, the ship's name and particulars, and brief reports of activities during the call, which often include matters of love, murder, survival, intrigue, shipwreck, romance, and much more. Since Pitcairn remains totally dependent on ships for its survival, this work offers the most thorough historical record of the island and its people.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ability of law enforcement agencies to manage intelligence is key to fighting the war on terror, and a critical foundation of intelligence-led policing is proper analysis of the information gained. Terrorism and Organized Hate Crime: Intelligence Gathering, Analysis, and Investigations, Third Edition provides a methodical approach to analyzing homeland security needs, enabling the law enforcement community to understand the vital role it plays in the war on terrorism. Using techniques applicable to the private and the public sector, the book combines academic, research, and practitioner perspectives to establish a protocol for effectively gathering, analyzing, investigating, and disseminating criminal intelligence. The book demonstrates how to recognize the indicators of an impending act of terrorism or mass violence, how to deter an attack, and how to transform information into intelligence to meet community demands for safety and security. New chapters in this third edition focus on source development and their use in investigations, the role of fusion centers, terrorism financing, the handling of classified materials, and the National Suspicious Activity Reporting (SAR) Initiative. The book also discusses pre-incident indicators, the radicalization process, and behavioral traits associated with terrorism. A one-stop resource for the homeland security, intelligence analyst, and investigative professional, this volume arms those tasked with protecting the public with a solid blueprint for combating and investigating crimes associated with terrorism and hate.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gods Kingdom First is written for all the folks who really want to see true success in their Christian lives. One of the secrets to living a truly successful godly life is by knowing what Gods children are expected to do and doing it. In Matthew 6:10, Jesus prayed for Gods kingdom to come and that Gods will would be done on earth as it is done in heaven. He advised us to seek first the kingdom and righteousness of God, and then all the other things we need in life would be given to us as well. Many of Gods children do not think about this important topic and then wonder why their lives are often in a state of doldrums, uninteresting, and disordered. This book discusses what the kingdom of God is, why it is important, and how we can seek it. The contents of this book are not new but have revealing secrets to a Christians successful life in the Kingdom of God.
