Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "And what is the use," thought Alice, "of a book without pictures or conversations in it?" -Lewis Carroll This book is written for modem undergraduate students - not the ideal stu dents that mathematics professors wish for (and who occasionally grace our campuses), but the students like many the author has taught: talented but ap preciating review and reinforcement of past course work; willing to work hard, but demanding context and motivation for the mathematics they are learning. To suit this audience, the author eschews density of topics and efficiency of presentation in favor of a gentler tone, a coherent story, digressions on mathe maticians, physicists and their notations, simple examples worked out in detail, and reinforcement of the basics. Dense and efficient texts play a crucial role in the education of budding (and budded) mathematicians and physicists. This book does not presume to improve on the classics in that genre. Rather, it aims to provide those classics with a large new generation of appreciative readers. This text introduces some basic constructs of modern symplectic geometry in the context of an old celestial mechanics problem, the two-body problem. We present the derivation of Kepler's laws of planetary motion from Newton's laws of gravitation, first in the style of an undergraduate physics course, and x Preface then again in the language of symplectic geometry. No previous exposure to symplectic geometry is required: we introduce and illustrate all necessary con structs.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thf3 symposium "Symmetries in Science VIII" was held in August of 1994 at the Cloister Mehrerau in Bregenz, Austria. The symposium was supported by Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, the Land Vorarlberg, and the Landeshaupstaot Bregenz. I wish to thank Dr. John C. Guyon, President of Southern Illinois University at Carbondale; Dr. Hubert Regner, Amt der Vorarlberger Landesregierung; and Dipl. Vw. Siegfried Gasser, Buergermeister der Landeshauptstadt Bregenz and Lantagsabgeordneter, for their generous support of the symposium. Finally I wish to thank Frater Albin of the Cloister Mehrerau for his support and cooperation in this endeavor, which made for a successful meeting in a most pleasant environment. Book Synopsis A Kinematics and Kinetics Primer by : John E. Hurtado
Download or read book A Kinematics and Kinetics Primer written by John E. Hurtado and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2014-05-14 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A complete set of lecture notes for a one-semester, junior-level dynamics course. Broadly speaking, the content covers point mass dynamics, rigid body dynamics, gyroscopic motions, introductory structural dynamics, Galerkin's approximation to flexible body modeling, and an introduction to Lagrangian dynamics. The material is presented in a novel and unique 1-page, 1-topic format. The principles are presented in a rigorous manner and careful attention is paid to establish a consistent and unambiguous notation.
Book Synopsis Deformations of Spacetime Symmetries by : Michele Arzano
Download or read book Deformations of Spacetime Symmetries written by Michele Arzano and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-06-14 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph provides an introduction to deformations of Poincaré symmetries focusing on models with a Lie group momentum space and associated non-commutative space-times. The emphasis is put on the emergence of such structures from quantum gravity, their mathematical features described in terms of Hopf algebras and applications to particle kinematics and field theory. Part I of this work focuses on the link between gravity and deformed symmetries in the case of 2+1 and 3+1 space-time dimensions. Part II is devoted to the description of classical particles with group valued momenta, their phase spaces and kinematics. The last part of these notes provides an introduction to the basic features of classical and quantum field theory on κ-Minkowski space-time, the prototypical example of non-commutative space-time exhibiting deformed Poincaré symmetry. The text, being the first providing a detailed overview of these topics, is primarily intended for researchers and graduate students interested in non-commutative field theories and quantum gravity phenomenology.
