This book is the second is the Kid Architect series and titled, " Kid Architect Goes to Indiana". It is a hardcover book oriented for children from ages 5 to 18 and, in addition, the book is of interest for adults from 18 to 95. The concept provides exploration, critical thinking and STEAM concepts in a fun, casual format for school-aged children. Future books will follow the fictional character, " Kid Architect ", around to cities, places, buildings, universities and public art throughout the United States ( and possible beyond ). One of the primary goals of the book is to introduce designa and architecture to young children in a fun and appealing way through the adventures and explorations of Kid Architect. Many children do not have personal interactions with an architect, so Kid Architect serves to help them learn and understand what an architect and other design professionals do. An additional goal of the book is make the design and architecture professions accessible to everyone. As a result, Kid Architect is not a specific gender, race, color, creed or is not an ethnicity or from any country. The book is designed for the reader to see themselves as Kid Architect and as the narrator during the exploration and adventures of architecture and public art and see the world around them in a new light. There are STEAM ( Science, Technology, Engineering, Architecture and Math ) exercises take the content of the book a step further by providing thoughtful hands-on chalenges that illumniate the text. Using everyday objects which are available in the home, children are presented with open-ended challenges directly related to topics in the book to inspire their creative problem-solving skills. Over the years, their distinctive physical characteristics have invited as much study as imitation. Their clean, unadorned lines have been said to reflect core Shaker beliefs such as honesty, integrity, purity, and perfection. In this book, Henry Plummer focuses on the use of natural light in Shaker architecture, noting that Shaker builders manipulated light not only for practical reasons of illumination but also to sculpt a deliberately spiritual, visual presence within their space. Stillness and Light celebrates this subtly beautiful aspect of Shaker innovation and construction, captured in more than 100 stunning photographs.

This riotous romp of a picture book follows a frantic family as they try to get some chores done—with no help from the family cat, who keeps scrambling the list of chores with hilarious effects. Get ready for a rollicking read-aloud with a truly purrfect ending. It's cleaning day, but the family cat will do anything to avoid getting a bath. So instead of mopping the floor or feeding the fish, the family is soon busy rocking the rug, vacuuming the lawn, and sweeping the dishes. Bouncy rhyme carries the story headlong into the growing hilarity, until finally Dad restores some kind of order—but will the cat avoid getting his whiskers wet? HILARIOUS READ-ALOUD: Word scrambles are a delight in this silly rhyming picture book! Kids will love the accessible rhyming text, and emerging readers will be able to anticipate words after repeated reads, making for an engaging and interactive read-aloud experience. CATNIP FOR CAT LOVERS: This sweet and sneaky feline will do anything to get out of having a bath! Ample cat antics and scenes of increasing mischief (and increasing chaos!) will tickle young readers and entice parents—particularly those with a furry feline member of their own households. TWO DADS LEAD THE WAY: Dad and Papa are the heads of this large and loving biracial family, mirroring illustrator David Robert's own orientation and providing picture book readers with a positive depiction of LGBTQ+ characters in a fun and funny family story. WINNING AUTHOR-ILLUSTRATOR TEAM: Alice McGinty is a prolific author of books for children, and David Roberts is well-known for his work on the popular Questioneers series. Together, their upbeat text and energetic art with pops of neon color make for a standout picture book, just right for gifting and enjoying together at storytime. Perfect for: • Parents • Gift-givers • Cat lovers

Book excerpt: Despite the renewed interest in Frank Lloyd Wright and the increasing body of literature that has illuminated his career, the deeper meaning of his architecture continues to be elusive. His own writings are often interesting commentaries but tend not to enlighten us as to his design methodology, and it is difficult to make the connection between his stated philosophy and his actual designs. This book is a refreshing account that evaluates Wright’s contribution on the basis of his architectural form, its animating principle and consequent meaning. Wright’s architecture, not his persona, is the primary focus of this investigation. This study presents a comprehensive overview of Wright’s work in a comparative analytical format. Wright’s major building types have been identified to enable the reader to pursue a more systematic understanding of his work. The conceptual and experiential order of each building group is demonstrated visually with specially developed analytical illustrations. These drawings offer vital insights into Wright’s exploration of form and underscore the connection between form and principle. The implications of Wright’s work for architecture in general serves as an important underlying theme throughout. This volume also integrates the research of several noted scholars to clarify the interaction of theory and practice in Wright’s work, as well as the role of formal order in architectural experience in general. By seeing how Wright integrates his intuitive and intellectual grasp of design, the reader will build a keen awareness of the rational and coherent basis of his architecture and its symbiotic relationship with emotional, qualitative reality. A graphic taxonomy of plans of Wright’s building designs helps the reader focus on specific subjects. Among the diverse areas covered are sources and influences of Wright’s work, domestic themes and variations, public buildings and skyscraper designs, and the influence of site on design. Complete with a chronology of the master architect’s work, Frank Lloyd Wright: Between Principle and Form is an important reference for students, architects and architectural historians.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ARE Sketches(tm) were born out of my journey to become a licensed architect and the study process I used by turning written verbiage into sketches for visual understanding. They have been shared online with others testing for their license as well as with those who simply enjoy learning about architecture. This book is whatever you want it to be. A flipbook of cool sketches. A visual study guide. A way for you to learn more about architecture. Each sketch provides a nugget of information in bite-size form, perfect for reading at your own pace with your own breaks. Write in the margins. Sketch in the blank space (there's purposefully room for that). Sketch on top of my sketches. Share it with a friend. Most of all, enjoy this wonderful world of architecture. This is the second in what will be a six part series of visual study materials for the ARE (Architect Registration Exams), covering mainly Site Planning & Design - with overlap to other tests.I get a handful of emails each week from people just like you, working hard towards getting their license. I love hearing from them and I love being able to help. That is the root of where this book was born - because a young licensed architect empowered to make the world better is a positive in my book.
