Book excerpt: The three Khans, Akbar, Amit and Chris, spelt their surnames differently but the Indian filmgoer still liked them. They were the uncrowned kings and superstars of the Hindi film industry. ‘Uncrowned’ meant there was no clarity about who was better than the other. This confusion was on display from the way they tried to run down each other in private and public. Baba Ram Karim was everything rolled into one—a philanthropist, businessman, film financier, race horse breeder, educationist and much more. Some called him Don behind his back! The three superstars indulge in ruckus and childish behaviour during Baba’s famous Iftar party where they were invitees. A furious and unhappy Baba plans retribution and calls it Khan Vs Kahn Vs Kanh

Book Synopsis Humans vs Monsters by : David A. King Jr
Download or read book Humans vs Monsters written by David A. King Jr and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2019-01-31 with total page 783 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The year is 1912. The world is reeling from the worldwide Great Depression, which has left every nation on earth reeling financially. During this time, two camps of nations have risen to prominence. The nations of America, France, England, and Russia, despite the economic collapses, have managed to start to pull themselves out of the Great Depression. On the other side is the UMN, the United Monster Nations, comprised of Transylvania (home of the vampires), Luciansburg (home of the werewolves, or Lycans), Covenia (home of the Witches or Wiccans), and Decemus (home of the zombies, or the walking dead). Both groups of nations are weary of one another. The UMN is ruled over with an iron hand by Grand Chancellor Alucard, who has brought to an end the centuries-long war between the monster races and has had the monster clans united in their hatred of mankind. At the outset of our story, the UMN has been on a military buildup for more than ten years now and is planning a massed military assault against the human nations listed above for control of the Earth. Though they preach for peace with America, this is just a clever ruse by Lord Alucard to buy his nations more time to prepare for war. One can only imagine the horrors of a conventional war. Gone are the days of lining up soldiers and having them simply walk into oncoming fire. This is a new century with new ways of warfare. A conventional war could mean the deaths of countless millions of lives, both monster and human.

Book Synopsis The Drugs Offences Handbook by : Tim Moloney KC
Download or read book The Drugs Offences Handbook written by Tim Moloney KC and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2018-02-02 with total page 415 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Drugs Offences Handbook provides a comprehensive, focused and concise analysis of the often complex evidential and litigation issues that relate to drugs cases. The law relating to drugs has the broadest span of any specialist area within crime. Evidentially it includes the forensic examination of drugs themselves and evidence linking individuals to drugs, as well as cell site analysis, interrogation of computers and mobile telephones, police powers of search, and the utilisation of police 'expert' witnesses. From a litigation perspective, drugs cases (together with financial crime) make up the vast majority of cases giving rise to money laundering and proceeds of crime issues. In complex supply and importation cases, the financial aspect frequently arises within the evidence as well. Laid out in three broad sections covering Offences, Evidence and Post-conviction, The Drugs Offences Handbook provides expert guidance on key areas such as: - Manufacture and cultivation - Importation - Possession and supply - Police powers of search and seizure - Sentencing and confiscation With reference to all relevant legislation including the Psychoactive Substances Act 2016, the Drugs Act 2005, the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002 as well as analysis of leading cases such as R v Hussain (Shabbir), R v Green and R v Wright, The Drugs Offences Handbook is an essential resource for criminal law practitioners as well as professionals such as drugs agencies, counselling agencies and expert witnesses. Tim Moloney QC, Tom Stevens, Paul Mason, Abigail Bright and Harriet Johnson are all members of Doughty Street Chambers. Steven Bird is the founder and director of Birds Solicitors. The Criminal Practice Series is a series of practical court-style guides covering a number of discrete, specialist areas. They assist users to identify cases, rules and regulations relevant to the specific topic quickly and easily. For more information please visit www.bloomsburyprofessional.com/criminal

Book excerpt: Life in the Caspian Republic has taught Agent Nikolai South two rules. Trust No One. And work just hard enough not to make enemies. Here, in the last sanctuary for the dying embers of the human race in a world run by artificial intelligence, if you stray from the path—your life is forfeit. But when a Party propagandist is killed—and is discovered as a “machine”—he’s given a new mission: chaperone the widow, Lily, who has arrived to claim her husband’s remains. But when South sees that she, the first “machine” ever allowed into the country, bears an uncanny resemblance to his late wife, he’s thrown into a maelstrom of betrayal, murder, and conspiracy that may bring down the Republic for good. WHEN THE SPARROW FALLS illuminates authoritarianism, complicity, and identity in the digital age, in a page turning, darkly-funny, frightening and touching story that recalls Philip K. Dick, John le Carré and Kurt Vonnegut in equal measure. At the Publisher's request, this title is being sold without Digital Rights Management Software (DRM) applied.
Download or read book Otto Kahn written by Theresa M. Collins and published by UNC Press Books. This book was released on 2014-03-01 with total page 398 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the early decades of the twentieth century, almost everyone in modern theater, literature, or film knew of Otto Kahn (1867-1934), and those who read the financial press or followed the news from Wall Street could scarcely have missed his name. A partner at one of America's premier private banks, he played a leading role in reorganizing the U.S. railroad system and supporting the Allied war effort in World War I. The German-Jewish Kahn was also perhaps the most influential patron of the arts the nation has ever seen: he helped finance the Metropolitan Opera, brought the Ballets Russes to America, and bankrolled such promising young talent as poet Hart Crane, the Provincetown Players, and the editors of the Little Review. This book is the full-scale biography Kahn has long deserved. Theresa Collins chronicles Kahn's life and times and reveals his singular place at the intersection of capitalism and modernity. Drawing on research in private correspondence, congressional testimony, and other sources, she paints a fascinating portrait of the figure whose seemingly incongruous identities as benefactor and banker inspired the New York Times to dub him the "Man of Velvet and Steel."
