Book Synopsis Department for Children, Schools and Families by : Great Britain. National Audit Office
Download or read book Department for Children, Schools and Families written by Great Britain. National Audit Office and published by The Stationery Office. This book was released on 2008 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 2007, the Department for Children, Schools and Families commissioned Sir Peter Williams to undertake an independent review of the quality of primary mathematics teaching and his report was published in June 2008. This report evaluates, in particular: raising attainment and progress in mathematics and narrowing achievement gaps between certain pupils and their peers; and the delivery and effectiveness of the Primary National Strategy's resources and interventions and their impact on pupil and school performance. It was found that bringing greater structure and consistency to the way primary mathematics is taught, the Strategy initially helped to improve test results at Key Stage 2. Since 2000, however, attainment has levelled off. It is too early to tell if the 2007 revisions to the Strategy will deliver the step change required. The report makes recommendations on this basis.

Book Synopsis Educational Opportunity by : Alexander D. Singleton
Download or read book Educational Opportunity written by Alexander D. Singleton and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-04-29 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While in recent years the burgeoning Higher Education (HE) sector has been set an agenda of widening participation, few HE institutions have strategies in place for reaching the full range of potential students most likely to benefit from (and successfully complete) their current subject and course offerings. Universities and colleges are often unsystematic in the ways in which they identify schools and colleges for outreach and widening participation initiatives, and sometimes uncoordinated in how they present the full institutional profile of subjects of study in these activities. Using innovative methodology, this book sets out some relevant aspects of the changing HE policy-setting arena and presents a systematic framework for broadening participation and extending access in an era of variable fees. In particular, the book illustrates how HE data and publicly available sources might enable institutions to move from piecemeal analysis of their intake to institution-wide strategic and geographical market area analysis for existing and potential subject and course offerings.
