Book Synopsis Overcoming the Corruption Conundrum in Africa by : Anzanilufuno Munyai
Download or read book Overcoming the Corruption Conundrum in Africa written by Anzanilufuno Munyai and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2020-01-15 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book adopts a holistic approach to identifying what could be done to surmount the corruption conundrum in the African continent. It acknowledges the objective reality of corruption in Africa, and identifies primary solutions to the issue. The volume takes a socio-legal approach in order to reveal the nature and extent of corruption, and suggests that solutions can be found simply by interrogating how society reacts to it. In conjunction with this, the book identifies and critiques constraints in the formation of a definitive definition of corruption. As shown here, although it is critical for African states to develop anti-corruption strategies, the solution to the problem requires an understanding of the significance of political will, and how the lack thereof has led to the endurance of corruption in Africa.
Book Synopsis Kautilya and Non-Western IR Theory by : Deepshikha Shahi
Download or read book Kautilya and Non-Western IR Theory written by Deepshikha Shahi and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-09-29 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ancient Indian text of Kautilya’s Arthaśāstra comes forth as a valuable non-Western resource for understanding contemporary International Relations (IR). However, Kautilya’s Arthaśāstra largely suffers from the problem of ‘presentism’, whereby present-day assumptions of the dominant theoretical models of Classical Realism and Neorealism are read back into it, thereby disrupting open reflections on Kautilya’s Arthaśāstra which could retrieve its ‘alternative assumptions’ and ‘unconventional traits’. This book attempts to enable Kautilya’s Arthaśāstra to break free from the problem of presentism – it does so by juxtaposing the elements of continuity and change that showed up at different junctures of the life-history of both ‘Kautilya’s Arthaśāstra’ and ‘Eurocentric IR’. The overall exploratory venture leads to a Kautilyan non-Western eclectic theory of IR – a theory which moderately assimilates miscellaneous research traditions of Eurocentric IR, and, in addition, delivers a few innovative features that could potentially uplift not only Indian IR, but also Global IR.

Book excerpt: “Seldom make fun about the future of any person; irrespective of present condition. Never underestimate the power of time; it turns even a worthless coal into a priceless diamond. ” “Speak the truth in such a way that it should be fair. Never speak that assumed truth, unfairly. Never speak untruth, even though it might be pleasant. This is the path of perennial Dharma.” “One must never place excessive faith on one’s Dhana (Wealth), Jana (People) and Yauvana (Youthfulness) for these three are the most transient in our lives – there today, gone tomorrow.” “Pursuing happiness is but the nature of every creature. But there is no happiness without Dharma. Therefore, pursue Dharma.” "Wealth cannot give happiness by itself. One has to understand that it is always a means, never an end. By recognizing wealth as an end, it becomes a source of misery. Wealth is temporary and unsteady. It moves from one to another. Greed drives people without knowledge of wealth to destruction. Therefore, knowledge and wisdom are crucial in earning, retaining and dissipating wealth, righteously." Kautilya a.k.a. Chanakya
