Download or read book The MahaBharata written by Romesh C. Dutt and published by Jaico Publishing House. This book was released on 2013-11-12 with total page 219 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ancient India, like ancient Greece boasts of two great Epics. One of them, the Maha-bharata, relates to a great war in which all the warlike races of Northern India took a share, and may therefore be compared to the Iliad. The great war which is the subject of this Epic is believed to have been fought in the thirteenth or fourteenth century before Christ. The war thus became the centre of a cycle of legends, songs, and poems in ancient India, the vast mass of legends and poetry, accumulated during centuries, was cast in a narrative form and formed the Epic of the Great Bharata nation, and therefore called the Maha-bharata. The real facts of the war had been obliterated by age, legendary heroes had become the principal actors, and, as is invariably the case in India, the thread of a high moral purpose, of the triumph of virtue and the subjugation of vice, was woven into the fabric of the great Epic.

Download or read book Until the Lions written by Karthika Nair and published by HarperCollins. This book was released on 2017-08-16 with total page 229 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Until the Lions, Karthika Nair retells the Mahabharata through multiple voices. Her poems capture the epic through the lenses of nameless soldiers, outcast warriors and handmaidens but also abducted princesses, tribal queens and a gender-shifting god. As peripheral figures and silent catalysts take centre stage, we get a glimpse of lives and stories buried beneath the edifices of god and nation, heroes and victory; a glimpse of the price paid for myth and history--all too often interchangeable.

Secrets at home, held tightly by Stephen’s half-Indian, half-Scottish mother. Only by uncovering what has been hidden can Stephen win Julia, a woman with secrets of her own... Set in St Andrews, Scotland before the millennium; among the early-Twentieth century jute mills of Dundee; in the industrial underbelly of colonial Calcutta and on the epic plains of ancient India, Karna’s Wheel is a poignant story about love, inheritance, and the things which make us what we are. 'Karna's Wheel is compelling, multi-layered and beautifully written.' Chris Given-Wilson, shortlisted for the Wolfson History Prize 2017

If The Best Homage To A Great Man Is To Be Paid Through An Understanding Of The Significance Of His Life And Work, This Publication Should Help Inspire Such A Homage Of Understanding. This Reprint Of The Book; Undertaken To Mark The 125Th Birth Anniversary Of The Poet, Will Bring Once Again To The Collective Consciousness Of A New Generation Of Men And Women The Memory Of A Greatness Which Was Amazing In Its Versality And Universal In Its Integrated Vision Of Life. Rabindranath Has Not Only Been A One-Man Synthesis Of The Old And The New, The Ancient And Modern, But He Has Also Been, Because Of His Extra-Ordinary Catholicity Of Mind, A Leading Light To The World Struggling To Be Reborn Into Sanity. Great Poets, It Is Said, Are For Ever Our Contemporaries And Some Of The Essays In This Volume Should Hopefully Drive Home The Relevance Of Rabindranath And All That He Stood For, As A Corrective To Our Age Of Cynic Despair. The Volume Contains Valuable Studies On The Many Aspects Of TagoreýS Personality And Genius Contributed By Eminent Writers And Scholars From Many Parts Of The World. There Are, Besides, A Full And Comprehensive Chronicle Of The PoetýS Life, From Year To Year, And A Bibliography Of His Publications In Bengali And English. Reproductions In Colour Of Some Famous Portraits Of The Poet By Distinguished Artists Add To The Value Of This Publication Which Is As Much A Tribute To The Genius Of Tagore As A Guide To Its Comprehension.
